Client version 5040

Post by Aescleal » Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:02 pm

Hey Gang,

I recently installed tSO. Unpatched it is at client level 5040. I have been able to connect to the LS and world, run around on TessEQ2 and Retribution.
Unfortunately I get dropped right around the 5 minute mark every time. I've connected to TessEQ2 a dozen times and every time I get dropped. This isn't happening on live, so I figured I'd post it.
Incidently, I've patched my live version and backed it up, so as soon as eq2emu is up to that patch level (not in front of it now), I'll test that patch.
I'll try the ogre funserver tonight and see if that server does the same, but my guess is it will.
Is it my client version that would cause this? I only found one thread on it, http://www.eq2emulator.net/phpBB3/viewt ... 5040#p9101. And with the emupatcher I can't make it find my directory and actually update.

My internet connection is 15 down / 1 up, and Live works mark-on.
My system is running on Vista x64, 8gb ram, dualcore 3.0ghz, ATI3870/512mb, 250gb hdd, onboard nic (broadcom I think)

Any suggestions to work from would be appreciated. I've been unsuccessful getting my server to update so I wanted to try just the client seperately.

Oh, and are there router settings that need to be open for either the client or server? I didn't think so but thought I'd ask that as well.

Thanks for this project. I'm hungry to offer feedback as soon as I can get in. Since I'm not a programmer and I'm not a dba, my help is probably little to none, but I offer it freely anyway!

I am not sure how stable the release client was for TSO, they patched it rather quickly after release. I would suggest a newer client, but I am not sure if we are up to date with live.

Okay that's sort of what I was hoping. I'll wait for the next emu update. My patched client is at 5426L.
In the meantime I'll focus again on the server.
Thanks!

So far, I think we've determined the 5426L client data stream didn't change much, if at all. So LE will just need to verify and bump the LS to allow that version. He's tied up (and loving it) this week though, so it may take longer than usual.

Also, it's Tuesday again... so if there is yet another patch, I'd just as soon get THAT data version compatible than waste time on an old one. I'll get that info today if I get time.

Well my client is at 5429L now. But I can't figure what's causing my connection issue. If I'm fast enough during character creation I can get into the actual game. But otherwise I get disconnected from the server. If I load an existing character I get a few minutes of game before I inevitably get disconnected.

I don't have this problem connecting to the Live servers, nor do I have the problem with other emu's like MaNGoS WoW.

I haven't perfected setting up a server yet, so I can't really test connecting to a minilogin...
My over-all plan is to connect to TessEQ2 and lend a hand. This is perhaps the nicest game I've seen in a long while.
But I can't explain what is disconnecting me unless it's something server side.

Can anybody help me out? Please? I'll give as much info as possible.

Thanks,
Aes

There is a known connection issue where the client disconnects itself from the login server at 90 seconds, regardless of whenever you are idle or not. If you can zone in correctly, then the problem is not on your end it is on the server's end. It could be that the server was brought down, crashed, etc. There is also a connection bug on the World server that sometimes causes the players connection to get out of sync and it usually causes the player to crash or get disconnected. Keep in mind that this software is very young and although we all wish we had more time to improve it, the development is coming along slowly. Half of the stuff from Live doesn't work and the stuff that does work needs to be adjusted/tweaked.

Good to know. I know there is an immessureable amount of work still to do. I just needed to know if it was likelysomething I was doing, or missing as it were, that was the cause of the disconnect. It's been buggin' me for some time now.
So it's great to know, from my side of things, that it's not me... you know (we all know) that when stuff goes wrong it's typical to look at your own setup and try like mad to rebuild/rework it to get things running.
I seriously appreciate the post!
Thanks,
Aes
