I didn't want to do this but I might need to.
Hi everyone,
Well what I was hoping to see and what is, are two differnt things. Seems I'm always building on a server and never playing.
Right now we have ripped apart a UO server and redone the maps, regions, scripts and all. It looks like a totally differnt game.
Now....
I was hoping to see a EQ2 server that is for Small Groups. What I see in the making are servers for big groups and raids >>
""" The way its supost to be"""... I'm not knocking this idea. But as for us we left EQ2 because it's for Big Group and guilds.
What I mean by Big group play is, Oblisk of lost souls, Frostfel and so on....
I'm sorry but it was very frustrating for us to not get a group because they built the game for guilds and guild leveling, Raids and huge groups. All I need to say is Raiding Guild and you all know the commitment that goes into that.
We were hoping to see a server for small groups. Like 2-3 player. 6 players would be able to do raid.
Is there anyone out there that feels like we do?
If so would you post here?
If we get enough players that would like this type of game play vs Big group We will Make a server for small group.
We have everything we would need to do this.
So I would love some feed back.
Thanks Palaxe

Re: I didn't want to do this but I might need to.
You obviously haven't played eq2 in a while
With EoF, and RoK (not sure about the newest expansion TsO), they have introduced almost more solo and duo content than 6 player and raid content. Each zone has about 80 - 100 solo quests and with the end quests sometimes being a group-required quest. The quest rewards are just as good as the 6 player instance group loot too and the exp is far better than the 6 player instances. It's a really cool system and it got me back into EQ2 when they released it.
But regarding your other question, a "small group" oriented server would be a pretty cool idea. I hope you can find some other people interested!

Re: I didn't want to do this but I might need to.
I'm confused. Is Palaxe talking about EQ2 LIVE, or EQ2Emulator?
If it is the emulator, then there is nothing to fear. Servers can be made any which way you like. 100% solo. 100% 2-4-6 player groups. 100% Uber guild raiding, even.
If it is EQ2 Live, well there is nothing that can be done about that here, is there...

Re: I didn't want to do this but I might need to.
I think he was saying all the servers he has seen being created on eq2emu are being based on the "large group" style? And that's the reason why he left EQ2?
He was looking for people to help him create a "small group" styled server.

Yep, All the server that are being made here are for Big Groups. We were hoping to see more small group servers.
So I might need to make my own server for small groups if there are players that would like this.
As far as live eq2, yes we have played all the new stuff,
So could you solo crush bone keep?
We couldn't ....
That's what I'm talking about.

So John Adams, did they put in a code in the core like I was talking about a year ago, With stats that could be adjusted?
here is a quote to remind you what I'm even talking about.

One thing I have seen on WoW emulator is there is an ajustment on Creatures.
So lets say its elite it would have a code where you can adjust how strong it is by a percentage.
This is WoWs code for example
"# Drop rates
# Default: 1
Rate.Drop.Items = 1
Rate.Drop.Money = 1
# XP rates
# Default: 1
Rate.XP.Kill = 1
Rate.XP.Quest = 1
Rate.XP.Explore = 1
# Creature Damage Rate.
# Examples: 2 - creatures will damage 2x, 1.7 - 1.7x.
Rate.Creature.Normal.Damage = 1
Rate.Creature.Elite.Elite.Damage = 1
Rate.Creature.Elite.RAREELITE.Damage = 1
Rate.Creature.Elite.WORLDBOSS.Damage = 1
Rate.Creature.Elite.RARE.Damage = 1
# Creature Health Ammount Modifier.
# Examples: 2 - creatures have 2x health, 1.7 - 1.7x.
Rate.Creature.Normal.HP = 1
Rate.Creature.Elite.Elite.HP = 1
Rate.Creature.Elite.RAREELITE.HP = 1
Rate.Creature.Elite.WORLDBOSS.HP = 1
Rate.Creature.Elite.RARE.HP = 1
# Resting points grow rates (1 - normal, 2 - double rate, 0.5 - half rate, etc) from standard values
Rate.Rest.InGame = 1
Rate.Rest.Offline.InTavernOrCity = 1
Rate.Rest.Offline.InWilderness = 1
# Damage after fall rate. (1 - standard, 2 - double damage, 0.5 - half damage, etc)
Rate.Damage.Fall = 1"
One thing in live I like to solo or play with a friend. To go into oblisk of lost souls lets say it is imposable for me to solo a level 50 templer in there and the mobs are level 38.
With that said It would be great to have one control to ajust how powerful mob types are by a Percent.
I would gear my server to be more easy for solo where as you might make your server more hardcore.
It would take forever to ajust each creature one by one and you would loose the balance.
Anyway I'm not sure if this is somthing that can be done in this emu but it be somthing to give some thought about.
Thanks A lot Palaxe

If not I guess I can do the change the data base stats and recompile. Or make potions that would make you more uber. sale spells...

Re: I didn't want to do this but I might need to.
Nope, fine-tuning like that will come along after the core emulator has matured. Right now, not all sub-systems are written so it would be useless to add these values today. Probably sometime after the beta release, later this year.
And I am still confused... unless other servers are developing content, the only server I know of with mobs, quest, spells, and items is Tess. But then, I live in a tiny little fantasy bubble and never come out.
And every encounter on Tess is soloable, because it's only newbie content.
Do I still not get the point?

Re: I didn't want to do this but I might need to.
Sorry John that this is confusing.
I have been looking at the Advertisement part of the forums. All the servers that are listed there ( including yours ) All say they will be like eq2 live. Here are quotes...
***********************************************************************************
""Tess" (The Edge; Secret Society) will be a legit Everquest 2 server focusing on the original game play options (factions being primary) with some occasional custom content thrown in for added spice."
************************************************************************************
"Scars of Anarchy
by Tyr on Thu Aug 14, 2008 3:26 pm
Gameplay
We aim to provide content for groups and for raiders, soloing will only be viable in the early levels, just as it should be. Raids are a main focus of ours, and there will be many of them spanning from the 20s to max "
**********************************************************************************************************************
Server Name: Dragon Land
Lead GM: Jablambo Malambo (Jeff Orchard)
Server Type: Custom Legit
Story Line: 100% Custom
Experience: Solo, Group, Raid
*In order of Best --> less exp*
Solo - Primary Exp: Quests/Exploration
Group - Primary Exp: Quests/Dungeons/Heroics
Raid - Primary Exp: Quests/Dungeon Exploration/Epics
Quests: 100% Custom
***************************************************************************
Sorry to spell it out like this, But if it makes my point... LOL
All of them say they are going to be Big Group/Raid servers or like Eq2 live. Which are not solo or small group friendly.
Again I'm talking about being able to do anything in the game with a small group or solo.
So John what I'm getting at is if there are no servers out there like this and if players want a server like this, I can make and run a small group/solo server.
I hope that explains what I'm saying better. Sorry I was at work a lot going on and hard to explain. Thanks Palaxe

Re: I didn't want to do this but I might need to.
It does, yes. I am sorry I was so confused hehe. One thing to keep in mind, server ads are only what people currently hope they can do with a server. Obviously, running the standard Core DB (when we're done with it) will be easiest... but I promise there will be some super custom servers eventually - because EQ2Emulator is highly configurable.
Tess (my server) is only "EQ2Live" because it is the core DB project server. If I am still interested in this damn DB by the time all this work is done (lol), I hope to run something at least slightly custom myself. Likely for low populations, so that means more solo/small-group encounters.
But listen to what Scatman said up there... our EQ2Emu DB WILL be Live-Like, and currently, EQ2 Live is very playable by solo or small groups. Obviously, raid content is for guilds and raids - but nothing is stopping a server admin from lowering the raid content to be done by small groups, giving you the exact same experience as live - only 2-6 players.
Definitely doable. So if that is your plan, go for it. Start now, since it will take some time to build a custom DB.

Ok that sounds great. Then that brings me to my next question, When can I get my hands on the db so I can start loweing mob stats? LOL... I bet you seen that comming.
But thanks that answers a lot of my questions.

Re: I didn't want to do this but I might need to.
You can start building a DB right now, using in-game commands like /spawn create and the model list from ZexisStryfe's sig.
The "official" database is a long ways from ready to be released. But the plan is to eventually release entire zones (or expansion content) as we complete it. Currently, data structures are being developed to support the many facets of server functionality, and since not all functionality has been discovered or developed, you can see why the data is not there to support it.
It is my hope to at least release the "newbie" areas soon(tm), but that could still be months away. We are a very small team, and there is LOTS of content. But any admin has the ability to add spawns and build their worlds now if they do not want to wait for ours to be released.
