EQ2Emulator ServerPack 1.0 Release

Post by John Adams » Mon Mar 09, 2009 7:47 pm

Using the recently released Minilogin module, I have made a local (LAN) EQ2Emulator Server solution that is an all-in-one package. That is, you download this, extract it, run it, and log in... no configuration necessary (except of course to point your client to 127.0.0.1 instead of eq2emulator.net).

Download: EQ2Emulator-ServerPack.zip

In this "repack" you will find:
  • - EQ2LoginServer.exe
    - EQ2World.exe (build 228)
    - Sample database with spawns, items, quests, spells, ground spawns and loot samples
    - Sample LUA scripts for quests, spells, and spawns (conversations and movement)
    - phpMyAdmin editor on localhost (after you run 1-MySQL+Apache.bat)
    - EQ2DBTool.bat for backup, restore, or re-initializing your Minilogin server
    - Tested to work with the EQ2 Clients through 5447L - for newer clients, you'll have to update the server like you would a public server
There is a README.TXT file you really should read. It covers most of how to use this ServerPack.

I do not intent to update this release, ever. This is a one-time deal from me, so if anyone else wants to take this on and enhance it, go for it. Consider this a template.

In this, I also do not plan to offer support, as I have my hands full working on data for the core server project. Since it is so simple to run, you cannot possibly fail unless you do not follow instructions, or attempt to do more with it than it was designed (Local LAN play only). That said, if you find a serious problem with the setup or need help, go ahead an ask... I'll try and answer when I have time.

Enjoy!

Sounds sweet as pie.

I just wanted to ask, got a bunch of MMORPG friends out there, and since this is only based on LAN. Would Hamachi work for this? That would mean in a simple set up, we could get some play happening. I'd thought I'd ask, as no one else had!

The Minilogin (EQ2LoginServer) can be setup for WAN play, far as I know. This repack is not, so you'd have to figure out how on your own.

But really, if you want WAN play, why can't all your MMO friends just log into EQ2Emulator official servers? That's what they are there for. The minilogin solution is primarily for those on slow WAN links or dialup access who cannot get to our servers, so they too can play around with EQ2Emulator.

Plus, there is a max account ID of 5, so only 5 people can log into a Minilogin server. The reason for this is that we require players on our public servers for testing and reporting issues. If everyone starts setting up their own WAN servers, this project will likely stall.

Not wasted at all, it's a good question that someone else may ask - and now there's the stock answer. :)

I have broken my own rule, and submitted a new ServerPack already ;) to be current with the 5499L client - but the main purpose was to include a little better documentation on how to use the package. You can find these new docs in the "docs" folder, oddly enough.

And, I just found another issue! Though it will not effect the ServerPack users much... but I will update it again shortly with some default skills I left out.

Then that's it! I swear! Done with it! ;)
