Client Freeze/Lock Up Problem

Post by Joeyboots » Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:28 am

Hello guys! Been following this emu for like a year now, and I finally went out and bought a copy of TSO yesterday, so that I may hop on and finally play the emu. With a fresh install and no updates, my client is version 5040. I looked around in the support section of the forums and saw that another person had an issue with 5040, but he fixed it by updating the client. I bought this box so I did not have to worry about patching again. :? Well everything seems to work fine, character creation went smooth, and I got onto the server (TessEQ2). Problem is after a few minutes of playing the client seems to freeze/lockup indefinately and I have to ctrl-alt-del to end program in order to unfreeze my comp. At first, I thought maybe this was a combat bug, as it first happened to me while fighting mobs, but after many reboots I discovered it didn't matter what I was doing it happened after I was logged in for a few minutes everytime. Hope you can help me, cause I really wanna play, and start sending bug reports, to do my part in helping out. Thank you for your time.

You definitely should not have to patch if you bought TSO (5040). If there's something wrong with the client, we can fix that. But it sounds to me more like the server might be having an issue with something. I will check it when I get home to see if it World is crashing on you. That would give the same effect. All of a sudden, everything stops working - because the client isn't talking to anything anymore.

I understand. Thanks John for the quick response. :D Is there a certain time you will be on? I will make sure to be on then. I am EST time btw. Yeah I had read that it works with TSO (5040) just fine, thats why i posted, as this is currently not the case for me. Hopefully we can find out what my problem is, i will see you when you get home. Thanks again John, and cheers!

I will probably be home after 5pm MST tonight. Dropping the truck off at the doctor ;)

Now that I have crashed my stupid PoS linksys router, the servers are all offline til I get home. Sigh...

No worries John. :D I will see you when you get on. I have waited a year thus far, so definitely not worried about waiting a couple hours. I'm sure this project can be very stressful at times, so I am not trying to add to that. To be honest, I am just grateful that there is a team that is actually doing this, and making it a reality. Much respect to the EQ2Emu team, and keep up the good work.

Hmmm, the server seems to be back up, but I can't seem to load in anymore after character selection. It hangs on the connecting to zone server screen, then kicks me after a few seconds.

this happens to me every once in a while however if it persists try deleting your cache folders in your eq2 directory.

Thanks Bion. I was starting to get a little stressed, because this kept happening after multiple attempts. I will try deleting the cache now. :D

Yay! I'm back in! Now lets see if it still wants to freeze up/kick me, after a few minutes. Thanks Bion. :D

Dammit, still crashing/freezing on me after a few minutes playing. Doesn't seem to be connected to any particular action, it's seemingly random. It has frozen while fighting, running around, accepting/turning in quests, accessing menus, etc. etc. I have tried creating different race/class/starting area combinations to no avail. IDK what the problem is.

Sorry Joeyboots. I didn't have time yesterday to do shait since it's tax time, and I am having suspension work done on my 4x4 (camping season!!) so I've been a little swamped lately.

We'll try to get to the bottom of it. Have you tried connecting to any other public servers? There's usually at least a few out there. We can ask LE to set his server up for a day too, maybe he can catch what your client is doing.

Ok, I tried out the other two servers Storm Quest and Dark Musketeers. Storm quest hangs on connecting to zone then kicks me back to login after a few seconds. I have tried clearing cache and reloading Storm Quest, but it never gets past connecting to zone. Dark Musketeers worked fine no freeze ups or crashes, but all I can do on there is run around and fight a crab, which I did for quite a while to make sure it wouldn't freeze on me, and It didn't. It's all good John, I'm sure we can figure it out, I have patience.
