JA's Offroad Adventures

Post by John Adams » Sat Apr 18, 2009 12:20 am

One of the things I used to do at least monthly was either go off-road (desert crawls) or camping. I finally decided to just suck it up and accomplish one of my 2009 goals to get my truck fixed up a little. It wasn't bad before, but now it's really not so bad. I'm hoping to re-activate that passion and hit the trails again before the sun turns the sand to glass

Got a 6" RCD Lift, 35x12.5 BFG M/Ts, 17x9 Eagle Alloy wheels, and nerf bars.

Here's some pics of the work done. Just picked it up from the shop this evening.

It actually isn't higher in the front, the picture just turned out weird...

Nah, I'm not a Glamis kinda guy. I'm into dirt, rocks, mud, water. I usually hit the desert trails around Superior and Globe near my house, or head to one of the lakes - lots of trails around here to romp around. Nothing extreme, too old for that haha. We usually start at one end, crawl through the desert, and come out the other side 12 hours later all beaten up and bruised ;)

Best places I've been tho, the Mugillon Rim and places in the high country of AZ. I'm dying to blaze trails in California (where I am from) but shit catches on fire there if you look at it wrong... plus, it's a helluva drive to get there heh.

I think what everyone wants to know is, how fast is the car computer inside of it? (mp3car.com) :)

Ha! No chips. I enjoy my 18mpg. Plus, this is a '99, I figure if I start fiddling with it, it'll fly apart

We were talking on IRC about pics, so I thought I'd combo this up. Here's some shots of the first test run last weekend.

In the middle of nowhere... Scat, remember that brown patch I linked you? This was it. :)

Crossing the raging torrent rivers of AZ

Hmm. Really, no road.

This run almost made Sara pee her pants  A lot steeper than it looks heh.

Coming back down... you get a better idea of the slope. I think when she snapped this one, we were at 45 degrees, and she could pick rocks off the ground out her window

A very pleased JA.

The End.

Surprisingly, it was only 75'ish last weekend in the desert. This week, we hit our triple-digits tho... warm from here on out. Time to head to higher elevations!

You can never be too safe when working with kitchen appliances.

Speaking of photoshop... here's one that actually cracked me up. Hard to believe, but someone in my guild once pissed me off (i know, huh?) and wanted to kiss and make up. So he showed me this shrine he made to me in his home.

I too once had hair, young rocker dude. This was after a drastic haircut, too... about 8" taken off. Hey, I had to get a respectable job!

Lmao, very nice. Yeah I had hair once too, before it started running away from my face. Ok I'm gonna go cry in that dark corner over there now.
