Crashing? Help?

Post by AshenFlowersFalling » Mon Nov 19, 2007 5:08 pm

Reinstalled EQ2 (original box - no add-ons whatsoever) for the first time in a long time a couple of days ago after hearing about EQ2Emulator. I updated on Saturday and am now on build 4523L.
First time I ran it (last night) I created a character, sent it to the server, and sat waiting for 10 minutes with "sending character to server for confirmation" style message, then figured the server was down what with you guys updating, and just clicked disconnect.
Now when I run Everquest2.exe, I'll get to "Loading zone resources, blahblah", and it gets as far as "Creating entities" before giving me a fatal error. I have no idea why, because I didn't change anything since the previous run. Absolutely nothing.
Fatal error is:
"EverQuest II has detected an unrecoverable error and must shutdown.
<verify> E:\live\eq2\game\ClientNet.cpp (532):
i_retval == Z_OK"

After copying the entire directory, I tried updating again. Now here's something weird. Every single time I run EQ2.exe, I get an updated "ZDDS21.vpk", as well as "Char_exp02_aviak.vpk". And I mean every time. I tried deleted the paks in case they were corrupted and redownloading them, but it doesn't fix the fatal error.
Still on 4523L though.
I really, really don't want to reinstall and try again, unless the original version (~13xx) is going to work on EQ2Emulator. I kept logs of how big the update was after my fresh install, and it was:
4GB+.
I live in Britain, and over here we have monthly traffic restrictions: I go over 40GB of traffic a month, and my ISP cancels my contract. I can't afford to reinstall.
Any ideas on a fix? If absolutely necessary I suppose I could go out and buy RoK, but to be honest I don't really want to, because I sadly don't have time to play the game enough to warrant it (my reason for killing my Station account in the first place).
PS: I'm a n00b here, a dirty filthy n00b!
Addendum:
Exactly what versions are compatible, and what expansions? I'm looking for the quickest and easiest fix. Thanks in advance.

Do not use EQ2.exe, that will run the SOE patcher.
Use EverQuest2.exe to launch the game.

It's alright now, found a fix, though I'm not very happy with it.
If I create a character on certain servers, I'll get that crash at the same place every time I try to log in with the account that I created the characters with. The solution was to create a new account, and just don't use the same server again.
Not the best fix, I know, but whadyagonnado? :?

I get a similar crash. Same version as him. Tried it on several servers. My exact error occurs right after it gets done loading a few things and tries to load the world...
<verify>E:\live\eq2\game\client\src\GameScene.cpp (4096): Faild to create zone. Suggestion: Please do a full scan from the patcher.

I got this error after creating a sarnak that was spawned in Timorous Deep. Since I dont have the expansion, I dont have the files for that zone. Not sure if that has anything to do with the error that im getting though

hey all - sorry to raise such an old issue. i get the same error as burn2break. however, it only seems to consistently happen when i try to connect to TessEQ. it happened for several other servers but after randomly creating and deleting characters several times across all the servers that are currently up, none of the others seem to be giving the error anymore - just TessEQ.

the link suggested by Polygon is no longer working. i found this from the official sony site:
http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:tTS ... clnk&gl=us

Code: Select all

Both of those crashes are a result of missing or corrupt data.

65535 is an invalid spell ID - missing a spell ID function call
This seems to be invalid data while casting a spell, or having an item proc while you where casting, taking damge etc

\live\eq2\game\client\src\GameScene.cpp - missing information for a zone.
What where you doing at the time if this? Casting, zoning..?

You may want to run a full scan at the download screen and try running the default UI, or update your custom UI.
any idea what the problem is?

By the way, here's my alertlog:

Code: Select all

build="SOEBuild=5280L" version="SOEVersionString=2008/12/2 16:02:18" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="GameScene::ZR_NETWORKED_ZONE_CHANGE" loc="-124.68  59.82 -890.29" performance="3" alert="E:\live\eq2\game\client\src\GameScene.cpp(11908): Unhandled client cmd 0, last: 508"
build="SOEBuild=5280L" version="SOEVersionString=2008/12/2 16:02:18" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="GameScene::ZR_NETWORKED_ZONE_CHANGE" loc="-124.68  59.82 -890.29" performance="3" alert="E:\live\eq2\game\gamecommon\client\EqNetMsgs_Client.cpp(4748): VeKeymapDataMsg::deserialize m_u32BufSize too big"
build="SOEBuild=5280L" version="SOEVersionString=2008/12/2 16:02:18" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="GameScene::ZR_NETWORKED_ZONE_CHANGE" loc="-124.68  59.82 -890.29" performance="3" alert="E:\live\eq2\game\client\src\GameScene.cpp(11908): Unhandled client cmd 158, last: 545"
build="SOEBuild=5280L" version="SOEVersionString=2008/12/2 16:02:18" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="GameScene::ZR_NETWORKED_ZONE_CHANGE" loc="-124.68  59.82 -890.29" performance="3" alert="E:\live\eq2\game\client\src\GameScene.cpp(11908): Unhandled client cmd 0, last: 158"
i would've included included eq2_crash.log, per the support forum instructions, but i didn't see the file and when I went to test TessEQ again the server was gone.

P.S. - sorry, couldn't find the Edit button for my original post before. I also wanted to add that I no longer have EQ2.exe. i think i deleted it so that i wouldn't be tempted to use it.

One of the structs we updated for your client might be off which would crash the client. I know your version is 5280L, but is that the TSO box version client? Probably an easy fix, but unfortunately it might have to wait until next weekend (as I'll be out of town this week).

Thanks, LE. it's not a box version. i downloaded it with the Sony Universal Product Patcher. i bought the original EQ2 when it first came out and an additional $90 worth of monthly subscriptions later, i'll be darned if i'm going to pay one of the largest gaming corporations even more just so i can revisit the game for nostalgic value every few years :)

there's no rush to fix it, although i'm curious to know if that means that (unless you fix it) it'll be broken to future EQ2Emu releases.

thanks again!

SoE is releasing GU 52- Monument and Might tomorrow, Jun 16th. That means you can expect the functioning client to be updated to current in approximately a week or two.

As we've said countless times (for anyone who missed it), once GU52 is made compatible with our server, BACK UP your client dir and do not patch again with that client until we say so.

Lack of HD space is a poor excuse. You can get a 1TB HDD for $100. Go mow a few lawns and save yourself some heartache. ;)
