i had to think a while if it was appropriate to post something like this, but, hell, everyone knows the site and stuff.

so, my ISP hass blocked the pirate bay, so i cannot access it, it would seem that it is an IP block. give me some suggestions on how to get around it ;) thanks.

short post, but if you want more info, i can always post again (this way i get higher post count too, lol jk)

Nah we don't care if you talk about torrents. Just don't let the discussion get towards acquiring free EQ2 clients or tweaking the client and I think the ban stick will stay sheathed ;)

How did they block it? Does a banner come up when you try to access the site saying it's blocked? If so, you might be able to get around it by changing your DNS servers or adding an entry in your HOSTS file.

try this:

open C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in notepad and add a line at the bottom of the file:

192.121.86.15 thepiratebay.org

save the file and try to go to the site.

oh, so the host file is kinda like exeptions thingy?
and they blocked it like this: they blocked my IP so that it will show a STOP sign instead of the page

EDIT: i cant seem to find my hosts file, i usually can, since i use it for Lineage 2, but it seems like it's just gone

(i use vista)

go to www.vtunnel.com. That site creates a virtual tunnel that allows you to navigate to any website from it :P

You're welcome!

Will forcing on bittorrent encryption take care of that? You can always try by starting up bittorrent and going to options>preferences>BitTorrent and changing Protocol Encryption outgoing to "Forced". I don't know if this will help your tracker to communicate at all or not but I guess it is worth a shot.

Another option is to read up on how to add a BitTorrent proxy server. I've never done it so I can't really help on that, I don't imagine that it would be much harder than setting up proxy server use for other programs.
This is not my escape from reality, this is my reality.

no that wouldnt work, and proxys are extremely slow, but i found a solution myself, called OpenDNS, then i can control what is blocked myself, ThePirateBay not being blocked :D

Glad you found a way to get it to work. I hate when ISPs start blocking certain addresses, seems like they should be crossing some legal boundary when they do that.
