Continuing the "Spells" effort

Post by John Adams » Thu Oct 16, 2008 1:33 pm

While we have a decent size list of spells by their class/name, we're still lacking some details as to what the spells, ability, or arts do.
As of GU52, every spell must be re-collected from Live
How you can help is to log in your character running the EQ2PacketCollector.exe, and simply mouse-over and examine all the icons on your spell book - starting with Abilities, Spells, Combat Arts, and Tradeskills pages. Lots of this data will be redundant, but in this case it's better to have too much than too little. Each class has their own unique abilities, but some also share common abilities. By overly collecting this data, we can match up those classes that use the same ability and reduce reduncancies in our database.

While the Traits, Traditions and Achievements are a long way off in terms of server functionality, we would benefit by having this data up front as long as we're collecting spell info as well. In this, open your characters "L" page (achievements), and again mouse-over each of the icons on:

Character Development tab:
  • {Race} Innate Abilities
    Racial Traditions
(I think you can skip the Character Traits, since I think they are the same for all characters)
    {Class} Training
{Archetype} Achievements tab:
Mouse-over each one of the achievement circles.

{Class} Achievements tab:
Mouse-over each one of the achievement circles.
  • As long as you can see the tooltip text on your client screen, the collector will have the data in the EQ2PacketLog.log file. Though it is best if you mouse-over AND Examine the spells details

Please accurately name the log to something like {race}-{class}-spells.log. Once you have your collection(s) done, PM me and I'll show you how you can submit your logs for processing.

Example naming:
darkelf-wizard-spells.log or
def-wiz-spells.log etc.

As always, your help in this is greatly appreciated. Please post a followup reply here with the race/class you have completed, so others know what not to collect again. I'll go first. ;)

Edited: JA - changed some of the details for post GU52 spells

I have collected the following spells data:
Ratonga / Assassin - up to level 24
Barbarian / Paladin - up to level 28
Mostly made these low-level toons to get their achievement data only:
Dark Elf / Wizard
Ogre / Guardian
Sarnak / Shadowknight
High Elf / Ranger
Wood Elf / Druid

Do you need spells (even tho the names changed in last LU) and achievement from a lvl 80 dark elf wizard?

you'd get all Master I data from T8 tho he's fully mastered in last tier...

also possible to collect: 80 barbarian Guardian (mostly adept 3 spells, maybe 2 masters)

I guess at level 80 you'd have the possibility to collect all of that class's spells right?

I was able to capture my own characters "advancement" stuff just by opening the L book and mousing over everything. I do not have any of that data for the other race/class combos that are not listed above. I'd have to make a character for each of those, and chose not to do so.

For normal class spells/arts/abilities, we have a huge list of name data, but not many details. So yes, they should all be collected - especially if you have a character that has all your spells.

Edit: Also, it's not so important to get all the "tiers" data, since we use sites like eq2.wikia and zams to help fill in some blanks, though raw data is always preferred... in this case, not as necessary as getting the base data.

When looking to gain data for spells/abilities etc..
Is a mouse over enough? Will the collector read enough from that?

(i know this is a spell thread, but on the mouse over , does it also work for vendor items ?
Im doing the ctrl click wardrobe/dressing room ...but if the mouse over is enough, that makes it even easier to play and gather data...)

If you see more data when you "Examine" than when you mouse-over a spell icon, it is better to Examine, yes.

From last GU (June 16th 2009) :

Apprentice I – III are now renamed just Apprentice, Apprentice IV is now Journeyman, Adept I is now Adept, Adept III is now Expert, Master I is simply Master and Master II is now Grandmaster.

So they basically got rid of apprentice 2 and 3.

Having a level 24 wizard, doesnt give you the opportunity to see the shadow endline being casted...

I don't care how it's "casted". We cannot identify spell effects currently, so all I was after is raw data that you get from Examine, and my level 1 can see that.

Yes we know this, so at this time there is something wrong in the spell structs that we have to figure out so we can display this information in the newest compatible client.

Just log on test, you just have to speak at an npc and he get you to level 80 / 200 AA but it give you full Expert spells too

Last time I have log in was for GU52, npc was at Lavastorms Dock (can't connect atm for check, I have to download full US client...). And for TSO beta they was in starting zone, generaly this is a really big npc with a funny name
