Re: Google Chrome OS
My take on it is that it is light-weight, for mom&pop email/surfers. Not sure if they plan to make it an uber gaming machine.

Yeah...don't invest in one if you're still on dialup =P
Seriously though, this could be a new wave of cheap (or should I say inexpensive) portable computers good for secondary usage. Useful for keeping next to your main rig or even taking to the bathroom (not in a dirty way).

Re: Google Chrome OS
I figured this would be more for E-paper, or at least one step towards E-paper.
I can't find the link atm, but you pay roughly $20 for a sheet of E-paper, and about $0.5 everytime you update. Its like an LCD screen thats as playable as paper, that you just chuck at a "WiNewsFi Hotspot" and they take 50 cents and you get a moving living talking breathing animated newspaper.

Re: Google Chrome OS
It never ceases to amaze me how many people think that anything Google makes is gold. I like the concepts behind Chrome as much as the next techie, the only problem with the browser is nothing works properly with it. The same thing is going to happen with this OS, I would bet money. You need app support for an OS to be a success, and as Linux has shown quite well, without that support you don't have a chance (in the public sector).

Re: Google Chrome OS
and this is exactly why I am a firefox user! I think my rule of thumb applies for this new piece of tech as well
So in this case, give it about a year, and we will all be using Google OS!ilythor's Older brother once wrote:Give it a couple months after any new type of technology is released. It allows the company to work out the kinks and 3 red rings of deaths!

Re: Google Chrome OS
Chrome browser is almost a year old... I don't see anyone using that.

Its a rule of thumb, not a law of conservation of energy!
Anyway, Chrome is not as good as firefox. Some things deserve to remain a minority for long, long, long, periods of times.

Negative, you misread Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
The machine creates numbers, which is matter, then uses that matter to convert into energy to power the space ship!
