New guy needs help :)

Post by Keir Avon » Mon Sep 28, 2009 6:28 pm

Hi all, I just bought two copies os The Shadow Odyssey, each installed on mine and the GF's machine.
we played for a while both on TessEQ and some other servers.. but now, on trying to connect to ANY server I get a "client crash" and the only option is to ok it, thus dropping me off. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit.. The GF's machine does the same, except that she's running XP 64bit, and it shows no client error just drops to the desktop??..
Incidentally, BOTH these events are as the connection reaches the "Creating Character" part.

Any help would be gratefully accepted, I'm beginning to wonder if a reinstall may be the optimal choice?.
(Neither of the installs are patched).

Many thanks,

You can try posting the newest lines from your alertlog.txt and verifylog.txt, might show what the crash is caused by.

You said you were playing fine, then poof - stopped?

I am using an ROK box set I had a few issues but only if I updated to a different client or exe file. I just reloaded the disk fresh on the hard drive and jumped right back in.

Hello, thanks for the help thus far..
I will post the requested files when I get back to the pc's (working nights for a few shifts), I hope its something simple.
Yes, we were doing fine, then during combat (nearly always) we would experience lockups.. everything would freeze, then drop to desktop???, although we could relog.. as I said recently tho' the client crashes when we try to relog.
From the experiences we've had, so far.. this is a great project, previously we were on EQemulator, (and the SWGemu)..
I'm looking forwards to getting back on!!!.

Many thanks to you all.

Keir

Another suggestion is, when the client crashes for any reason, you might try clearing your cache and logincache* folders, and deleting any files in the Everquest II folder that might be related to "crash"es. I've found cache can really get screwed up sometimes.

I'm looking for something from alertlog.txt that looks like:

Code: Select all

build="SOEBuild=5771L" version="SOEVersionString=2009/7/16 15:59:40" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="exp05_dun_void_palace" loc="-135.08   8.84  -7.51" performance="3" alert="E:\live\eq2\game\gamecommon\client\CompressedXOR.cpp(243): Bogus compressed data.  This is normally caused by mismatched client and server."
details will be different, but that's the line.

Hello all, sorry for the delay in getting back to this issue!!.. "Work expands to fill the time available" Darn Right :)
Ok, here we are right now, reloaded from the install disks.. (Shadow Odyssey), and when I (or my Partner) try to login or create a new char My pc stops, just like in the first post with a "Client crash" error, and hers just drops back into Win XP 64.
reading from her alertlog.txt says only two lines, "failed to manufacture window threat", and "failed to manufacture window researcher".

I really hope someone can help with this.. as its starting to get irritating!!

Regards

The odd thing, I think researchers and threat came along after TSO box was released so I am not sure why that would matter. My ROK doesn't have either, and I can log in fine. Has to be something more mysterious.

Is it immediately when you enter your name/pwd, then see "Create a Character"? Or after you've set the entire character up and are now entering the world of your choice with it (and what world is that)?

Make sure you are also deleting your 2 cache folder contents between tries. That might cause issues too. "cache" and "logincache-us" (for US clients)

Hi John, thanks for the help:)
Its when we're (either machine), is entering the world.. (anybodies, have tried several LOL) also with a mixture of created char types. I did delete both cache, and logincache-eu (in our case) contents. Am currently trying a full add/remove and reinstall on "she who must be obeyed"'s machine.. will let you know what happened by return message :)

Thanks for all the help so far :)

Make sure when you Add/Remove, you also delete the Everquest 2 folder and it's contents. Don't re-install over what may be bad data ;)

Good luck! We'll be here.

Well those are UI windows that were added in game updates after the expansion came out.

Are you using a custom UI Interface? If you are, you may have an updated custom UI that has references to those files that don't exist in a boxed set install.

Hi all :)
Its FIXED!!!!!
(I did a full remove, including the folders left behind by windows Add/Remove Software), reinstalled, and all appears normal! Both PC's can login to, and create chars on the servers listed :)

Many thanks you all, for the help :)
