I do it as well. Server is slow when you have the client as the focused app (usually when it has to print text) but other than that it's fine.

Well, sure, if you're running on a nearly dead laptopScatman wrote:I do it as well. Server is slow when you have the client as the focused app (usually when it has to print text) but other than that it's fine.
Mine runs as good as if the server wasn't on the same machine with a Core Duo 2.1ghz thing with 2gb ram. My video card is my only current problem. Bought a GTS 250 to replace a dying 8800GTX, and my life has never been the same. I sure miss my 8800.

Re: Server and Client on Same Machine
Do you run the server on one core and the client on the other?

Re: Server and Client on Same Machine
What kind of setups do we have...linux server and emulated windows client, windows server and client, or emulated linux server and windows client?

Re: Server and Client on Same Machine
TessEQ2 is a Win32 x86 machine, and the EQ2Emu DB Project is on Ubuntu 9.10 x86. Both of these are virtual machines with 2GB RAM allocated, but they barely use 1/2 that.
My local test box is a Core 2 Duo >something<, can't remember, x86 Windows XP. I have a WinX64 and Linux x64 virtuals also for testing Emu's x64 capabilities.
You writing an article or somethin?

Re: Server and Client on Same Machine
I was wondering because my wife still wants me to set up a Perfect World server, and the files are Linux based. Since EQ2 comes in Windows and Linux flavors, I was exploring my options. In the end I'll probably run my server on a Linux box, but while I'm still a newbie at using Linux, MySQL, and Lua, I can feel confident in programming my Admin Panel on my Windows machine.

Oh, are you thinking of running EQ2 Client on Linux (wine)? That I have zero knowledge or experience with... I guess wine works, but honestly never bothered since I have so many PC's with Windows on them to use.

Re: Server and Client on Same Machine
The plan is to run PW on linux box, possibly side by side with EQ2 server. Client will be on my windows machine. While I'm working on my Admin Panel, I'll be running client and server on the same windows machine. Then, when the Emu goes beta, I'll be dumping PW and dedicate EQ2 to the linux box (keep thinking of lunch box for some reason lol).

Re: Server and Client on Same Machine
Ok, cool. I sincerely doubt you'd have a problem hosting both on a single box, unless that box is horribly out of date (built in 2001 or earlier
)
EQ2World is not a hog, especially with the minimal amount of data we currently have. You should even be able to run a server/client on the same box without noticing a difference.
