Hello,
While running around testing things on the TessEQ2 server, my client suddenly crashed. It was while doing the quest to recover parchment papers from horse patrolmen in the Overlord's Outpost Zone (newbie start, evil zone). I attacked the npc, I would stay I was a bit away from the npc, turned on auto-attack, it died, then the crash happened. The error was this:
Everquest II has detected an unrecoverable error and must shutdown.
<verify>E:\live\eq2\game\client\src\ProxyActor.cpp(4049):0==pPred||pPred->fCollisionRadius > 0.0f 00577a07 004beed5
In all my years of playing both EQ, and EQ2 (not to mention VG) I've never received that error, anyone have an idea on "why" it did that?

Probably an invalid (lack there of?) packet we are sending. Do you know what you were doing at the time?

Client crashes are frequent during Alpha development. We still do not know 1/4 of what this client/server combo can do, so reporting the issue in as much detail is great to help us troubleshoot. Problem is, we cannot debug the client - so unless the problem is reproducable, we will probably never fully fix it.
It could be bad data fed to your client. It could be too high of graphics settings and getting data from our server that was not intended for your client. "ProxyActor" makes me think of proximity, but I doubt that is truly tied to it. It is likely again some function of the client is expecting something it did not get, or vice versa.
In other words, expect crashes, and please continue to report them

@Scatman - Yup, I had *just* killed a patrol horseman npc in zone Overlord Outpost. I was standing a some distance away from him when I attacked him, I used auto-attack, he died, it crashed. I think it had something to do with me being farther away and using auto-attack to kill the target then should be allowed, will test again and see what happens.
@John - Yup, that's the whole reason I was running around testing things to see if I can report anything that might be broke or cause a issue so I can report to you guys

Ok suffered that crash again, Here is what I was doing:
Working on the quest to kill tunarian miners and harvest gem stone. Harvesting gem stone was odd and what I crashed on. While harvesting the harvest bar did not show up. The harvest was instant. After doing the second harvest I crashed. Here are some of the logs the client pumped out, I'll put them in the code tag format to ease of reading and to save room:
Code: Select all

Both are from alertlog and verifylog. If there are other log files somewhere I am not sure where. You'll notice the date and times are wrong as well, not sure why that is. Not sure if these help any but said I would post when it happens

Not sure if I should keep posting these here or somewhere else?
Had another crash with a different error after completing a quest, here's the info.

Clive, are you deleting your crash logs each time you start your client? If not, you should.
My BAT file I use to run my client:
Code: Select all
@echo off
rd cache /S /Q
del logincache-us\*.* /Q
del *crash*.log
start everquest2.exe
Not sure if it's a myth or a fact, but when I first started messing with eq2emu someone told me residual crash files could cause their own set of problems. Not sure how factual that is tho. Seems to make no sense, but I comply like a good robot.

What does:
rd cache /S /Q
actually do? From looking in my folder, I don't have a directory called cache... Which is odd, because for the EQ2Live copy I have, I do. But the patched copy I made for EQ2EMU doesn't. Should I perhaps make a folder called cache and hope it gets used?

the rd removes the dir, and if it's not there, the client will create it.
You using Vista or Win7 or anything that might prohibit your current user from creating folders? I hate the HELL out of those operating systems, and their control-freakishness
There can be only one. <--

Yes, I run the satanic operating system known as Vista

However, my account is basically a super user account as it has all the same permissions the admin account has (in fact this IS the admin account). If it were up to me and I had to pick a Window's OS to use I'd stick with XP, but the ole lady doesn't want me to do anything to her computer. (As mine was laid to rest a month ago)
I will make sure to double check permissions and make sure they are set right JUST in case.

Ugh... Vista. I'd rather you have Win7
Try running Everquest2.exe as right-click Run as Administrator. See if it creates the folder. I think Vista is such a jackass, it won't let anyone modify files in C:\Program Files at all. Maybe copy Everquest II folder outside of Program Files, too.
That might just be the problem, which doesn't make sense why your Live EQ2 doesn't have a problem creating folders.

C:\EverQuest II is my eq2emu version. And upon testing the gibber gabber guy, it created the cache folder! The only permission I changed (which probably didn't do anything), was getting Authenticating Users "full control". But its there now, that could solve my crash issues as well, as that folder was "MIA".
Yes Vista is the spawn of everything evil, almost like WindowsME was. Once I can get my computer built I'll just go windows7 anyway (64 bit) mainly so I can utilize more memory. Still trying to talk her into at LEAST upgrading to 7! But she is set in her ways.

Tell her Windows 7 is "pretty". She'll go for it.
All I had to do to convince my gal to upgrade was sit where I knew she could see Win7 desktop, and started changing themes. she was all "Ooooooohhh!! I WANT THAT!" done deal.

Yeah I beta tested 7 when I was doing a job down in Florida. But now that I'm back here in Michigan and telling her about it it's going slow, i *ALMOST* had her when I informed her she could get a low cost version because she's a student in college. But she didn't, so now when she complains to me about how the computer is slow and or is messing up, I just reply "Nothing I can do hun, Vista is in control not me" burns her right up

I have been on the Win7 bandwagon since pre-beta. In all honesty I have not had a single major issue with it, unlike Vista. I can't believe I am saying this, but it is worth every penny for the upgrade (never upgrade! fresh install!

). I also must say, Office 2010 is quite nice as well...
