Crash on Load

Post by KainUK » Sun Mar 28, 2010 11:26 am

Hi there!

I've actually been lurking on the site for... oooh... a while. Finally had the guts to make an account and try this out! :) Basically, I've got an unpatched RoK version of EQ2 sitting on my hard drive (version 4412). I've edited the ini file as per the instructions listed in this forum. When I try to login with the username and password that I've created, everything seems to go well until I get to "Adding character to game world".

Once that pops up on the screen, I get the dreaded "EQ2 Client Application has stopped working" box. If it helps, this is what I get if I click the problem details arrow...

Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 edition. I also run 2 live versions of EQ2 as i'm a two-boxer... no problems with either of them though I don't -think- they'll work with the emu as they're currently on patch version 6333. Anyone have any ideas? :)

Hey Kain, welcome to the party!

honestly, the RoK boxset no longer properly function with the emulator. What you are seeing is probably a result of that. As for 6333L, while you are able to connect with it, it is not officially supported and VERY unstable.

Ahhhh... I thought it might be something like that.

I've got a TSO boxed set kicking around the house somewhere... launch-day collectors edition. I'll see if I can dig that out and install it and then go from there. :)

Well I decided to try 6333L before I went digging through various boxes to find my TSO boxed set...

Got to Loading entity resources before the same error.

Now... where the hell did I put that box...

Finally found that damn TSO boxed set!

Why is it that after moving house, it takes forever to find or unpack anything???

I can now connect to the main character select screen and make a character, yay!

However, after a set amount of time, EQ2 just completely locks up. I'm currently using version 5040, which is the unpatched TSO boxed set. It's SO unpatched that it still thinks it's RoK rather than TSO!

Should I be looking at using the utility in one of these forums to patch further?

You can try the 3rd party patcher made by Image, but I'm not a dev so I couldn't tell you how well that will work. It seems another person is having trouble with the TSO set, we'll see what we can do for you!

Oh, and Welcome. Have fun!!!!

Mmmkay...

Given that a try and it works fine up to character select. From there, it gives me the "EQ2 Client Application has stopped working" crash again. That was with version 6118L.

I suspect the emulator just doesn't like me. :p Going to try clearing out all my caches and such and see if that helps at all.

I think I had similar issues with 6118L, so I patched to 6280L, but unfortunately that isn't an option anymore. Hope it works for you!
