It needs to be a law, when they dont have enough profits coming off the game, its source code must be released

But Astal, here is the issue.
Say they do release their code, and I'm a big company. Well guess what! I just bought that code and bam, shut you guys down for good because I am a jerk.
That is the main reason most don't.

I think the game is soon going to be getting the NGE treatment that SWG got. Won't be surprised if it happens in the next year to year and a half.

EQ2Extended is browser based and on totally separate servers. I doubt it will have any impact on us here.
I would be more concerned about this- SoE Unveils Everquest Next

I couldn't even get the alpha to work. It would stick at an SOE screen. So I didn't get to test it and see how bad the RMT store is on EQ2X.

Their business model :here.
I don't like this business model.
We are getting to the stage of "the more you pay, the better features you get", which will only unbalance the game and cause an overall upset throughout the community.
I don't understand why they would ruin a game as great as this but money talks in the real world.

Re: EverQuest 2 Free-to-Play (SOE Official)
Well the free to play service is really up now, I just logged in to check it out.
Personally I'll be heading straight to the old content to play. Qeynos, the qeynos catacombs, Antonica.
Ahh good old times, now I don't have to fork over 15 a month to enjoy it again.
There are some restrictions though... they are kinda crappy but meh, it's free. I'm just sayin though veteran players ought to have gotten some deal out of this.
Anyways, I'd be intrigued to see how this could affect eq2emulator's progress. Now that you don't necessarily need to pay to play to capture still TONS of data...could be a positive side to our project. Downside is the new client. We would have to somehow keep a retail client and work with that. I don't think the new client works with an emulator or not.
There are no zone paks btw, there is a folder called 'assetcache' where assetX is placed. X will be a number and one of mine has hit over 1 GIG already in the first few minutes of playing, a new one has been created now and increasing in size as well. I'm assuming this 'cache' is where all the gamecontent is stored client side. Hopefully it won't purge and this is a one time download for each asset file that gets filled.

Re: EverQuest 2 Free-to-Play (SOE Official)
It may not affect us at all, aside from content collection. If EQ2 Live goes 100% F2P and there is no longer a box set client to base our server compatibility on, then yes... we might have an issue moving forward [with keeping live compatibility].Chrisworld wrote:I'd be intrigued to see how this could affect eq2emulator's progress.
However, EQ2Emulator still plans to build a live-like experience (at the core) and more so, a server base that you (the admin) can build any world you wish using existing, purchased, box-set clients and play on them forever.
In other words, we're still going to build our engine, just might take even longer without data, but hey, we don't even have C++ devs so I guess it really doesn't matter

You know John, all I have to say is people have to admire you. Keep everything strong and still going. and to be truthful, someone on this board, at least 20+ people have to know C++ to jump this off...Too bad your not writing it in PHP Script
(; (; than this would be a cake walk for me to help haha.
(Yes people, i know c++ and php are two different languages and do different things, but it was a joke
