Server crashes...details included

I set up the package posted on the home page and everything seems to connect fine until it finishes loading entity resources and the client crashes. I tried to connect to the emu server and it worked fine so it somewhere with the package set up.

Here is some info:

I'm running the boxed Shadow Odyssey verson (build 5040) on a Vista 64 bit machine (yeah, I know...).

Sorry for all the info but I didn't know what could be needed. I'm going to keep searching the forums and hopefully find a fix for this. I would LOVE to have a project like this to actually put the C++ I learned to good use while I'm waiting to finish the degree lol.

Going to bed.

I'm going to remove and install a fresh version of the EQ2 client due to the error in the alert log.

I also creaeted a blank gm_spells.lua file just to avoid the error, which works for now until I figure out where the real one is :oops:

I can't really be much of help in this department, till one of the dev's get back and they can help you out first hand, but I'll set a few things straight for you.

The amount of information is good, we love helping people if they let us know exactly what went wrong, so thanks for giving us the detail we need.

We definitely need C++ developers around here, again once the dev's get back we can outline what you can do, where to start, and get you set up with some nice stuff to code.

Glad to hear you found a work around, and your using the search button. It's fantastic to see people with initiative, so good work :lol:

Ok so I'm not the guy that can just leave something hanging and go to sleep. :lol:

I was lying in bed and it was bugging me I didn't just go ahead and do the fresh install so I kicked the dog off the foot of the bed, threw on the robe (I'm too much of a tight ass to turn the furnace on in October), and headed down to the computer.

I did a full uninstall and reinstall placing the game in the C: drive despite my personal peeve of not putting ANYTHING there not windows related.

I logged into admin and BOOM crash.

I created a second toon but this time in Faydwer and...

I AM IN!!!

Zones that are safe to start in:
Kelethin - GreaterFaydark
TimerousDeep - TimerousDeep

Zones that crash on me when I try to start a toon there:
Qeynos - QueensColony
Freeport - OutpostOverlord (I've had one success here)
Neriak - DarklightWoods

Now that I have a working version of the client and everything connects it is time to dig deaper.

Thanks for putting such a simple package together for us complete newbs.

Now I can sleep and start checking out some customization tommorow and possibly familiarize myself enough to dig into the error I was getting.

Nice, now we have an officially unofficial work around for this problem, and the package was designed to get as many people as possible to sign up and create/join servers. In that case; you are very welcome.

I'll give bud186 the work around, thanks to you!
