Well, I finally got RoK today and installed it for the first time. I followed the instructions and everything worked fine (Was able to connect to the Everquest 2 Emulator Server without any issues.) I make my character (Sarnak) and it shows up fine (Can't adjust sliders or scale color but that doesn't bother me much) It also shows up fine in the game (I see myself as a Sarnak) Then I delete that character (Trying to see if the lack of slider use was linked to my character) Well, I create a Sarnak again (I know I picked Sarnak as my race too.) I log into the TESS server again and now i'm shown as using the Barbarian model (Much to my dismay) So, being new to the build versions and how they work, I foolishly patch RoK to the latest version in the Everquest 2 Emulator patcher (After fighting with the program to get it to download the 80MB. Since for some reason it likes to stop the download at random intervals and only a restart of the patcher will get the download to contine. (Have to do this multiple times.)
Anyways, as expected from patching RoK. When I open Everquest2.exe it crashes. So I uninstall and reinstall RoK again. The install goes fine and I set the .ini config to connect to the Everquest 2 Emulator. Now when I run Everquest2.exe it still crashes. I'm confused as to why as I did a program uninstall of Everquest 2. I suspect that somehow during installation, it is retrieving backup files from somewhere on my computer and putting them back into the Everquest 2 folder (Mainly because I see that I now have files for my characters in there, before I even ran Everquest2.exe a second time) So I suspect these files are causing the crash somehow by being the previous 'patched' ones. Basically i'm wondering what I should do at this point and how to do a true fresh install of Everquest 2. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition and have full admin.
Issues with RoK fresh install.

Go for a program uninstall, and remove it from your registry. I am not sure what the exact registry keys/locations are, but google how to remove anything from your registry, and have a browse around!
Aside from that, check your documents sections (especially my games) for any EQ2 folders, they usually house settings and controls, try deleting that folder if you find one!

Re: Issues with RoK fresh install.
Right, when you uninstall, sometimes it leaves configs lying around. Always delete the installation folder after an uninstall.
As for crashing, ROK and the Patcher... unfortunately you cannot take a drastic leap from ROK (2007) to a pre-SF (2009) client using our patcher. If you have ROK, you do not need to patch at all. Only the TSO (and soon to be, SF) box sets will need a 'boost' in the patcher, because when SOE pressed the DVDs, the client was hella buggy and we cannot support it. Hence, the patching.
I have no idea why you would once be a sarnak, then become a barbarian. I will check out your character logs when I get a moment and try and figure something out.
Thanks for the report, and for trying. Don't give up!

Re: Issues with RoK fresh install.
I'll try doing a reinstall later tonight (When I first uninstalled it there was no installation folder, as far as I remember) If that doesn't work, i'll install to my other hard drive (Which shouldn't have any registry keys associated with the game) As for the Sarnak showing up as a Barbarian, I figured it was because RoK is no longer officially supported and therefore has synch issues with the server when it comes to appearences and other things. So i'm guessing that for some reason (I was still a Sarnak as far as the game was concerned.) the game defaulted to the Barbarian model, just a theory of course. But I thank you for your time answering my questions.John Adams wrote:Right, when you uninstall, sometimes it leaves configs lying around. Always delete the installation folder after an uninstall.

Alright, I reinstalled Everquest 2 RoK (Last time I must have forgotten to delete the remains of the install folder that the uninstaller leaves behind) And now it launches fine, now just have to see if that bug with the Sarnak model defaulting to Barbarian in game (Not the login screen) still occurs, thanks for the assistance so far!

ROK Client is still supported by us, but you won't get new(er) features of the game with the old client/ui, that's all. ROK should work fine, and have just as many bugs as all our other clients doArchon wrote:As for the Sarnak showing up as a Barbarian, I figured it was because RoK is no longer officially supported and therefore has synch issues with the server when it comes to appearences and other things.

Re: Issues with RoK fresh install.
Everything seems to be working fine now, though some of the quests are broken and I have no armor/weapons. Though that's likely because RoK is an older client.
