Blacked-out zones

Post by John Adams » Sat Dec 08, 2007 4:41 pm

Anyone have any advice how to find my way to valid coordinates in some of these zones that are total blackness? I am assuming 0,0,0 is off the grid somewhere, and have sat trying dozens of different coords to get to "see" anything.
I've also gone to lookup the zones on Alla's and other places to get potential NPC coords, but entering them with /move still shows me nothing. Total blackness.
Any tips? Or has anyone else been able to find their way around dark zones?
Try this one:
/zone qey_epic13_l04_towers
This (I believe) are the mage towers in Qeynos for Betrayal. If so, there is supposed to be an NPC at 534, -9, 132 - but when I go there, I am in darkness still, and expected to see a room or something?
Thanks!
-J

qey_epic13_l04_towers: This is a small zone used for mage class quest so no longer used :P It is not the mage tower in Queynos.
But if you really want to try just increment Height of safe loc, I have "unlock" zone zones with this way

I guess if there are zones that are no longer used, we should eventually remove them from the zone lists if zoning into them ends you up in a black hole. No admin would use it anyway.
Or, if there are "safe coords", obsolete SOE zones could be used by admins for custom content. Either way, I have sat in a black zone for hours incrementing the z axis and got nothing but black. That's why I posted... though I was missing something.

John, You could always try turning up the spectrum on your monitor to see if that helps. Jost joking. It took me a couple of days once to fine a safe coords for a EQ1 zone once. Best maybe keep trying or try and packet collect that zone on live and extract that packet data and see if it gives you something.

Set your location to 719 48 114 before you zone in and give it a try. If you are outside of a "room" (EQ2 speak for zone boundaries), no matter how much you use the /move command it might not put you inside of the "room". If you encounter a blacked zone, try setting your coords before you zone in until you can do so.

Oh darn, I forgot to turn my monitor on!! :p
j/k, ok LE. I'll give that a try next time I am in. I was going through the Zones and fixing the "Describe me's" one day. Check my zones.php for my updates if you want. I will eventually provide SQL's to update any I fix. Right now, work and holiday hell... so I won't be doing much til 2008.
