Changing the Maps

Post by torgum » Sun Dec 09, 2007 11:54 pm

EQ2 is a big Game (without question) ...
Do you think there is any chance to run a small server? I don't know... for 50-100 people no one needs the complete map.

By small server, do you mean like, only 5 zones or such? Yes, that is possible. You can populate the zones with whatever level creatures you like, so you could make Antonica levels 1-80 if you wanted.

That's not exactly what i meant...
Why use Antonica? EQ2 is such a great engine... why not make own zones? Own mythologie? Own landscape.
Don't know if it's possible... You know Ultima Online?
There's default the britain map... but which free server uses it? There are several tools out there to create own maps (draw Bitmaps, convert them to a enginemap) ...
I don't know the format of EQ2 Maps... but would it be possible?

But Ultima Online is a 2D game, EQ2 is in 3D it would be more and more difficult to create a map. And not sure this is possible

I was just using Antonica as an example. For me, I am creating a whole new world with a whole new mythology, but using the existing zones. I am actually reconfiguring them into solid continents. Although I would guess that all new zones may be possible in the future, creating such zones would be a massive project, one quite frankly I am not willing to undertake. If you can get together a team of several dozen developers, then it may be feasible via a program like OpenZone to do that. I just think it would be time prohibitive to create zones that look as good as the existing EQ2 zones do.

Yes it would ;) But i should be possible :)
I mean... Even if it's 3D (aside from this UO uses a z-level .. ok... graphics are crap but try to draw an ascending path trough mountains to a higher level area... It's a pain in the a.... ;)
So why shouldn't it be possible to develop such a tool for EQ2...
