Dropping Support for RoK & TSO Clients

Post by ilythor » Sun Jan 22, 2012 2:37 pm

Effective immediately, the EQ2Emulator Project will no longer develop server functionality for the Rise of Kunark (2007) and Shadow Odyssey (2008) Everquest 2 clients.
You will still be able to connect with these clients
to our Public LoginServer and ServerPacks 1.0 - 1.3!
However, any bugs reported using clients earlier than 6118L will not be pursued unless deemed the bug affects all current supported clients.

Reasoning: Too many major components of Everquest 2 have changed in the last 3 years, and we choose to not try and maintain a balance between old-style and new-style EQ2 at this time. Maybe "When we are done"(tm) we may go back and add the ability for older clients to function again (EQ2Classic Server concepts), but no promises.

The client versions we currently support from this day forward are:
  • 6118L Sentinel's Fate (6120 patched back to 6118)
7628L Destiny of Velious (DoV box patched, current base, most support)
...more to come once we catch up...
Note: Our client Patcher will still patch your box sets to the last functioning RoK and TSO exe's.

Thank you for your understanding

I think this is a good move towards the progress of a more current "Live" like experience. This also allows everyone to focus their time on more recent versions of the game.

It's a big decision I'm sure with all the work others have put into those older clients; however, it was a much needed one in my opinion. Bravo for taking the next step.

I wonder if my 5122L client is what caused the crash yesterday.
Too bad, I don't have the cash to buy the new one :?

There is, it is supposed to be tested by the team before I released it.

Is there any way to patch to certain point like they do with the WoW emulators? I doubt it, but its worth asking.

No, SOE does not provide nice packages of RTP files for people to download. They use a different method altogether to patch (tho delta's are still used). The only way to get a patch from SOE is to have a valid account and log in to their launcher.

...or figure out some way of hacking their patch server to gain access to all their files.

We offer a mock Patcher just to bring box sets to nearest compatible, but we don't talk a lot about that out in the open. :)

I', fiddling with patcher now, I was just unsure if it would be able to bring my TSF (5122) client up to 6118. Seems unlikely.

Actually, I retract my earlier statement

Thankyou kind sir.

Re-retracted:

It seems that it causes me to crash upon trying to log into an actual character.

Retro-tracting your re-retracted trackee.

No, you cannot patch an entire client in any way using our patcher. We'd get spanked. All we provide is the same EXE you can download from different public resources (http://isxeq2.twonk.net/) in an attempt to bring JUST the Everquest2.exe within compatible reaches.

Ie. TSO Box = 5040, but is broken. So we patch to 5122.

SF has been unsupported for years, so we back-patch to 6118L (sunset of TSO)

And now, DoV box has been untested, but 7628L mostly works. Etc.

I see, Thankyou. Right now all I have is TSO. I (Had) patched it to 5122 before and played just dandy.
I fiddled with the patcher trying to slap it up to 6118 (Which the main page says is the current one) And now I crash every time I try to enter the game.
So I'm going to reinstall tso and put it back to 5122 since I was still able to play (Until I ruin everything for everyone)

Is there is any other way other way to get to where I need other than buying another box set? I'll get spanked by my other half if I spend anymore on vidja games until the year 2063.

You shouldn't have to do all that. As I said, our patcher only changes Everquest2.exe, so change the version in the EQ2EmuPatcher program, and re-patch to 5122 again.

Unless you went in with a machete and started hacking dirs, then yes... a reinstall is advisable.

As for where to get Sentinel's Fate, I'm sure there are "options", but the only one we condone is buying a legit copy. It's probably $5 on Amazon.
