Do you think that /ooc should span across all zones?

In game /OOC Poll

By span across all zones, I mean when a player in any zone uses /ooc all players on the entire server will hear it and be able to communicate with them. Keep in mind that most server populations will be extremely small, especially at this point in the emu's life cycle.

I believe that it should be used and we all know that in the future there will be larger server with 50-100 people and I feel that it will bind the community and make it a warmer place....OR it could totally backfire and make it a flaming hell hole for argueing and that is when you will have to have it monitored by GM's.

I think the option to do this would be cool.
We might look at putting an option for it in the variables table, or the loginserver.ini config file. Something like OOC={WORLD,ZONE} for admins to make their preference? Just a thought.

Agree with Diamente, the best is to allow final user to just set an option for OOC like World, Zone, Tier,...

Yes! An option to customize the setup would be even better. Having played a lot on private servers, a global /ooc channel is very helpful. I could see though, if a server got too 'chatty' you would want to localize the chat spam.

Some emus use a time limit for their ooc channels, so if you type too much too fast you have to wait like 20 seconds before you can chat in the channel again.

That is a good idea...and admins should also have the option to *mute* someone from the global chat if they get a little to naughty

Flood control like this is good too. Maybe we could generate a ToDo outline of features to store the ideas for later implementation?

Code: Select all

#loginserver.ini#
OOC = {WORLD,ZONE}        <-- global chat
GM = {WORLD,ZONE}         <-- a GM channel
BROADCAST = {WORLD,ZONE}  <-- a server announcement channel
TIER_00 = {WORLD,ZONE}    <-- Isle of Trial chat
TIER_01 = {WORLD,ZONE}    <-- lv 1-10
TIER_02 = {WORLD,ZONE}    <-- lv 10-20
TIER_03 = {WORLD,ZONE}    <-- lv 21-30
TIER_04 = {WORLD,ZONE}    <-- lv 31-40
TIER_05 = {WORLD,ZONE}    <-- lv 41-50
TIER_06 = {WORLD,ZONE}    <-- lv 51-60
TIER_07 = {WORLD,ZONE}    <-- lv 60-70
TIER_08 = {WORLD,ZONE}    <-- lv 71-80
floodprotection = 3 <-- chats per 5? seconds, zero would disable
floodpenalty = 20 <-- chat 'timeout' in seconds, zero would disable
Not sure if you would want the Tier 0 -> level(n) channels as it would be 9 more channels to administer, but I am just guessing the setup could still be done.

I would rather have the 3 than the one..it would be easier to manage but, its all up to the server admin.
But the Trial of Isle chat seems silly because its just one zone.

I think its a great ideal. You guys have made it pretty clear that you will crack down on language
usage. However, it should be restricted to zone usage only. I mean PM(s) are there for a reason right. Those world shouts can get annoying, and with such a small community there really is no need for cross world /ooc. Maybe, u can incorporate it to save time and troble for later usage just deactivate until there is a real use for it.

It has been done. Right now there aren't any configurable options but I will consider adding it in the future.

Yeah, it would make it easier to chat to others, i mean why wouldn't you do it? Eq1 has already done it haha... works great, although EQ1 kinda sucks now that there's an EQ2 Emu ahah..

Expanding on this, a command to /oocmute entirely would quell any server-wide chat riots. It has come in handy more than once on our EQ Emulator. Just a thought.
