Questions about Eq2 emulator.
Hello.. i am new to this website and obviously lack knowledge of it. I am looking to make my own everquest 1 or, everquest 2 server a private one. i guess they call them emulators now adays? Im looking to make a private server that is CLASSIC way back when the game was first released. i have no interest in the newer expansions. i wanna make a server and play my own way. and most importantly. play before AA trees were invented. I've been searching around on how to make one. but nothing yet. so i thought i would give this website a try. i dont even know if this is the correct spot to post this. Im not looking to join anyones server either i just want my own classic. if anyone can give me some working links on how to fully set up an eq1 or eq2 private server thatd be great. also if you have any links to GM commands that would be awesome too. thanks in advance for any help.

It is possible to create your own private server with the code/server packs we provide and you have a lot of freedom with what you can do. If you wish to make a classic like server you can if you are willing to put the time into building the content. I say classic like as you will have to use a supported client, we do not support the original clients. We try to make the server we provide as customizable as possible, it is still in development and lots of features don't work yet.
There is a lot of info on the forums and the wiki about how to set up a server and the various commands.

I'm not sure im following you.. on any part of what your saying or most of it. Are you saying a classic server is impossible? if not. what do i need for it? a classic client and thats it? and also do you have a proper link to your code/server packs? any classic ones?

Re: Questions about Eq2 emulator.
i think my refined questions are...
#1 how hard is it to make a private classic eq2 server before AA was implemented?
#2 how long would it take if i cracked down on it?
#3 does this website store any files what so ever that would support classic servers?
#4 can friends join my server if i make one? if so how?
#5 if this website doesnt have a classic client do you know where i can find one?

1. This emulator is still in development and is nowhere close to being complete, you could simulate a classic server but combat calculations and such are not yet complete. The classic "client" isn't compatible but all of the spawns, items, ect are not based in the client they are in a seperate database the client connects to. So you could lock out certain features in a newer client and create ui's to hide different sections ect, but it would be very time consuming: and again this emulator isn't complete anyway. (check out the eq1 emulator project, there is a server project1999 that is classic eq1.)
2. You would have to add every spawn manually to get a legit classic experience. Basically from memory.
3. Classic servers have been mentioned before as a possibility in the future but that is not a project goal so it would not be done by the dev team until after the emulator is complete, if at all.
4. Friends can join your server. See this server pack: http://www.eq2emulator.net/phpBB3/viewt ... ack#p24655
5. We do not hand out clients on this site. To get a client you must obtain one legally through SOE. There is a list of compatible clients around the site, with the latest server builds the current live client is compatible, however.

Re: Questions about Eq2 emulator.
how does one go about locking out certain features in the newer client? and how come the emulator isnt complete when it comes to the classic eq2 that was basically just released? im sure someone on the internet wanted that experience back? or is that extremely difficult to get? and how would i go about adding every spawn manually if i cant get into the game? i followed the basic directions about doing the sql+ apache client i think, then the world server, and login server, i open all of them up. and they seem good to go. my problem is the client to login to the classic one as i dont yet have one. but i do have the newest client. thats about where im at.

Re: Questions about Eq2 emulator.
Okay as I said before, everything in the game is server based. All your "client" has is models, zones, your ui stuff like that. The server tells your client what zone to load, where to put your character, what spawns are where with what appearance. So in other words it's not a simple as loading up the client and presto you have a complete classic server. The difference between the classic client, and newer client is the newer client just has more models/ui, and some different models if stuff has been modified. That being said to use the latest live client you'll have to grab the latest EQ2world.exe and minilogin.exe off the server code svn along with the struct files and replace them in your server folders. Edit your world_server.ini to allow for updates and update your database. Run this query in your phpMyadmin or whatever database tool you are using:
Finally add 0.7.2-dev into your login_versions table in your loginserver db. Then your live client should be able to connect, make sure you edit your eq2_default.ini as it says in the server pack guide. If you can get it working this far then there are various guides in the tutorials section and wiki as to adding spawns ect.
Code: Select all
DROP TABLE eq2ls.opcodes;
CREATE TABLE eq2ls.opcodes LIKE eq2world.opcodes;
INSERT eq2ls.opcodes
SELECT *
FROM eq2world.opcodes;-

Thanks for your prompt reply. it seems like alot of work. but all i have is time. so maybe after countless hours i can begin to fathom all of this. you mentioned there are tutorials in the guide section. is it possible there is a guide there that adds all of the classic spawns. or gives you some clue on how to do it? or is everything updated way beyond that? also is there a guide as to reshaping the world for when it was first released? say.. back in the day when eq2 first came out. you started on islands. now you do not. i remember a tiger named murrarr shar or something like. he was a guide when you first stepped onto those islands. i would like to try to set up everything that far back. if you recall what im talking about.

Re: Questions about Eq2 emulator.
You can actually get to the islands still and those are some of the few zones we do have populated. The dev team here is fairly small. We have steady progress but you can only do so much so fast with <10 people. As the emulator isn't feature complete there hasn't been alot of interest in folks taking the time in making a classic server as even if you get one to spawn like classic not all of the mechanics will work right currently. Let me know if you have any problems with the steps I gave and I'll try and help out. You can connect to our test server if you want to see the queens colony real quick though =p. Just create a login account with the account management module on this site, and edit your cl_ls_address to "eq2emulator.net" without quotes in your eq2_default.ini where your client is then run everquest2.exe and you may login. If you hop on our test server just type /zone list "partial zone name" to get zone id's. Then type as an example "/zone 253" which will take you to queens colony.

Re: Questions about Eq2 emulator.
assuming i was able to set up everything properly. how close to classic do you reckon i would get? % wise. like how close would everything be to being classic. or nearly. without expansions?

Re: Questions about Eq2 emulator.
Spawn wise assuming you would know where everything was supposed to be about 95% if you put enough time into it.. but we don't have all the spells and such added (those will come soonish I believe). Just be aware that this would be an absolutely massive project.

Re: Questions about Eq2 emulator.
I have to say it's possible but it's near impossible for 1 person honestly. A eq2 classic project will come around eventually but it is far off. I can't give you any kind of timetable because you can always attract/lose dev interest in these kind of projects, people do this for the challenge and have other stuff going on in real life at the same time so it's hard to predict.
