Spells & Combat Arts

Post by KhaineGB » Thu Jun 27, 2013 10:47 pm

I've been doing a bit of digging to see if I can help out at all with Spells & CA's, as that's going to be one hell of a task considering the game has 25 classes. The following is what I've observed, and I hope it will be useful.

The bad news is that SOE don't appear to have a clear "formula" for how the damage/healing of spells upgrade between quality. So working out the difference from Apprentice -> Journeyman -> Adept -> Expert -> isn't particularly easy.

However, I do have some good news!

I checked the item listings on u.eq2wire.com since they're supposedly pulled direct from SOE live feeds. To compare, I basically made a level 1 fighter and a level 1 mage. I linked all the scout, priest and mage items to the fighter, and then all the fighter items to the mage. I figured that'd work since they don't have the requisite abilities and the starting gear has no stats, so that can't influence the displayed numbers. The Journeyman and Expert spells match up with the ones listed on the website, so we can use that to gather the required data for every class, every tier and every quality to spell!

Ok, it's a lot of work, but it's easier than making every single class and leveling it to 95... then upgrading every single spell slowly to expert and THEN trying to find the Masters on the broker.

I also have a little more good news. I have noticed that the MINIMUM damage of Journeyman spells/CA's is always EXACTLY the same as the maximum damage for Apprentice level spells. I've compared the difference between the minimum and the maximum at Tier 1, and then the same again at Tier 9. From that, I've managed to work out a very basic formula that will allow us to calculate the minimum damage for apprentice level spells. As I mentioned, the MINIMUM damage for journeyman is exactly the same as MAXIMUM for apprentice. Anyway, I'm rambling now... but this is what I've worked out.

Difference between Max Dam/Heal and Min Dam/Heal at Apprentice.

Tier 1: 1.5
Tier 2: 1.465
Tier 3: 1.43
Tier 4: 1.395
Tier 5: 1.36
Tier 6: 1.325
Tier 7: 1.29
Tier 8: 1.255
Tier 9: 1.22
Tier 10: 1.185

So basically, to get minimum damage, just divide by the number above and if you don't get a whole number, round down. It seems to be fairly accurate in regards to Live servers, but obviously the only way for 100% accuracy is to just make a character and power level it. I'm hoping this might help save some time for populating some of the class skills. I need to see how it compares for skills with more static numbers (like debuffs, hate transfer, etc), but I suspect the formula would still work.

:| Just thought of a minor problem with the above.

It doesn't work with Ancient Teachings spells. They only come as Expert for crafted or Adept/Master for dropped. Either we best-guess these (i'd probably use the adept and then the numbers above for that), or we simply make them "scribe only."

Cool info. Posting to let you know that most information on spells we have in collected data, we just haven't finished up a way to pull all the info from said data yet.

You couldn't possibly know that obviously as the project is huge and a lot of information to take in :P . Shoot John Adams a tell if you're interested in helping out and he should be able to point you to some different options you could work on. And again if you have any questions about the emu just ask.

Sorry I haven't posted this sooner, been extremely busy the past week, going boating tomorrow and after that things should calm down and I'll be around.

Boating sounds like fun. :)

Will do. I'd like to see if I can help build some of the classes. Was thinking of getting the tanks underway as i've got a high level bruiser, shadowknight and guardian (used to be a zerker at 90) so I know how they should "feel" in playing.
