Services Outage - Aug 17-18, 2013
All Emulator services will be disrupted this weekend while I perform routine maintenance on the main PowerEdge server (it needs quieter fans, relocation and cleaning).
Starting [when i wake up] on Sat the Forums, IRC, SVN and Game Servers will be down.

Update: Not that this will matter to anyone but the super NerdHedz in the room...
But I had a spare machine in the house, so I configured it as a 2nd node in my ESXi cluster and migrated all the VMs that run my empire, and they appear to still be working... so maybe we won't suffer an outage after all
Things may be a little slow for a few hours, but we should still be here.

For Xinux... do you think it's time for a little preventive maintenance?

You mean like this one? Exactly what I did use. And a shop vac, and coarse bristle brushes, and Q-Tips and microfiber towels... it's been a long dayxinux wrote:you may need to use a air compressor on it
FWIW, I clean this server once a year usually... so this is just 1 year of filty Arizona environment that is surely shortening my lifespan with every breath.

I have to brag about my super cool setup again though... without VMware (or virtual machines of any kind) I would not be able to do all the things I am doing. 7 years ago, I had a room with 6 PCs in it, all burning the power 24x7, just to run a few websites, MySQL server, couple game servers (EQEmu, EVEmu), media server, etc.
When I joined EQ2Emulator and saw how into it I was getting, I sprung for the PowerEdge 2900 in 2007, and because of my day job working with VMware ESX and vCenter, set up my own little NOC
Now I have doubled+ the number of machines I run, more powerful than the stand-alone boxes ever were (in 2006), and the only inconvenience was the noise. Today, I took care of that problem... so any moment now the 2900 will die

Wow, and I thought I let my stuff get dirty
, which reminds me, I should clean mine when I get home
I recognize one of those boat anchors anywhere, used a lot of those Dell PowerEdge Servers at my previous place of employment.
Edit: Nice, that's some hardcore VM happenings, lol. I just get by with a VM Ware Workstation.

FYI, one more short website outage as I shut down the VM to give it back it's memory. Had to choke it a little to squeeze all these machines onto a 12GB Desktop-posing-as-Host

Edit: Okay, we're back and clocks are sync'd
Thanks for your patience.
