Hello to you good folk!

Post by Lithillia » Sun May 25, 2014 4:52 pm

I have played EQ2 for years and years, though with a few pauses every now and again. I have tried many games, but found my self to go back to the good old EQ2. I am no one special, just a girl who have been gaming online since i was 18.
Started with DaoC, and that game will always hold a dear place in my heart. Wish more games would keep a Vintage server for those who don't like having their games ruined...
But I thank the beautiful and hard working folks like you guys at EQ2emulator ( or anyone who do work to restore gems of old games ) I was playing SWG, and with out ranting on how my heart bleeds due to its destruction, I will move my self on to EQ2 ( as I did when the going got tough in swg).
I am currently playing EQ2, and it still feels ok, I have a 94 inquisitor, but never got to see the newer content yet, I don't feel the pull to rush to the end games, and in EQ2 it seems like there is always something new and better being released. It is hard to keep up.
I did raid a bit back in the day, between max level 50 to 70. I am not hardcore, not even a little bit, just nice to try a few things with friends.
What I absolutely love with EQ2 is the decorating part, the more they have expanded the game the more new items been given to us to decorate with. Lately, even decorating has been dumbed down. You can buy "ikea flat packs" like items that kills the inventive way of making new things. Like the new rooftops, but that is beside the point.

I have mastered all tradeskills, several times, most of all Carpenter.

I miss the old and more complex crafting systems. When we had to mix salt and pepper to make seasoning for our food. When things was harder, and making the rewards better because you had put time and energy into getting them.

I have been looking for eq2emulator for a while, and for some reason, only found hearsay about the project being put down, the dates showing back in the old 2000 sometime. I tried again to day and finally I made the right click and here you are. I am excited! Still love my EQ2, but I would love it more if I could go back.

I don't know if you could use me for anything, but I do love decorating, and I am currently staying at home, so I have time for something. I can't code, never tried, wish I could though.
I could make cookies and coffee, tell some half good jokes. Though if you need any help that a regular mortal could perform then don't be shy to ask.

Welcome, glad to see a new face around here.

If you want to help out we could use content designers, and testers. Testers will just play the limited content we have and report bugs. Content designers will build zones on the EQ2DB server based on live, we have tools to spawn data from packet collects as well as in game commands to make adjustments, even moving spawns around like you would decorate a house. Content design also has some LUA scripting but you could skip that and leave it to one of us coders if you want.

If you are interested in content send a pm to John Adams to get you set up, if you want to just be a tester connect to EQ2 Emulator server and play with what we have (current live client should be compatible).

Again welcome to the forums.

Thank you for such a quick response.

I am trying to get my self sorted with a way to log into your server, planning to have a look at what is there. I might be able to help out with more than reporting bugs, and since I have a high level toon I can go most anywhere in the game to have a look at what things look like and report back, or even help placing them.

I will go through the appropriate channels to report to duty and see if I can be of use.

Live client should work on our server so all you need to do is patch to live, once done I recommend making a copy of the live folder, but it is not necessary, find eq2default.ini and change the first line from

Code: Select all

cl_ls_address 69.174.200.10 69.174.200.20 69.174.200.30 69.174.200.60 69.174.200.70 69.174.200.90 69.174.200.100
to

Code: Select all

cl_ls_address www.eq2emulator.net
Also check for cl_resource_address and make sure it has // in front of it, if not add it.

Finally run EverQuest2.exe (NOT EQ2.exe)

You will need to make a game account here to be able to log in.

As for our content we do not have much, only frost fang is in a playable state, we are working on other zones but we are a small team and content design is time consuming.

I appreciate the time and effort you guys are putting into this. I am not looking for anything finished for me to start to play, hoping to help if I can ( as stated many times before, sorry  )

Thank you for the help on how to get started, I will follow that and make my way in. Currently downloading a seperate client for this purpose, would be less confusing me thinks.
