Website slow?

Post by John Adams » Fri Jan 25, 2008 9:27 pm

Maybe it's me... But since I've been surfing here, the site seems to get REALLY slow, sometimes simply times out, or you won't see the stylesheets. Clicking on posts or reply takes upwards of 45 seconds to actually move to the page you intended.
But a moment ago, things were flying along again, so I thought maybe it was my DSL. but while EQ2emulator.net is terribly slow, I can open pages anywhere else and get immediate results.
Thoughts are, getting spammed to death by robots and spiders? Googlebot? Or possibly some jealous asshat trying a DoS attack? This is usually the only site that acts like this, from home or from work... so dunno. Just thought I'd bring it up in case something is wrong.

Yah, it has been a little slow for me as well. I havent timed out or anything, but it has been a bit annoying. I'll keep an eye on it.

I cant see anything wrong with the server, so there is probably some network problems at the host. If it persists I'll contact them about it.

Aye, right now it's speedy! I would check the phpBB admin index when things seem sluggish, see if you have 150 Guest's online, all from Googlebot. :) We've had that happen at my site, and had to start banning those IPs.

We got some extreme slowness again the last few days. Thought I would bump this in case there's something fishy going on. ;)

You will be pleased to learn that my "slowness" is indeed my own... not sure wtf is going on QUEST COMMUNICATIONS, PHOENIX AZ. ;) between me and this one single website... but I hop on my company VPN and surf this site from home with zero lag or delays. Soon as I disconnect VPN and get back to my own network, it's dog shit slow again.
I think my router is dying, too. 2 times in one day, it seized up. I wish I knew Linux enough to run a router/firewall through it. What fun that would be!
