Looking to recreate the "Golden Age" of EQ2 PVP
Hey all, new here on the forums and was hoping for some insight into what would have to be done to get a server up and running that focused on PVP. For years the PVP section of the offical forums has been covered with threads asking for a time locked PVP server. I for one would love to see this happen so I though I'd pop over here an see what would need to be done to get there.
What I would like would be a server with EOF or ROK content and working pvp mechanics mimicking the mechanics of that time.

Our pvp is basic at best and never has had testing as there was never a real demand for it and other stuff took priority. Our current focus is content and we are working on getting the shattered lands populated but with our small team it is slow going. It is possible to lock zones so when we get past EoF or RoK content you could lock the zones for the newer expansions so it would just be the content you want.
I never played on an EQ2 PvP server so not sure of the rules, if it was free for all or Qeynos vs Freeport. Also what is this time locked pvp?

Understandable. I didn't expect the pvp rulesets to be in place.
PVP is Qeynos vs Freeport vs Exile. Exile is FFA and can attack other exiles if they so choose to.
Also by time locked I simply meant EQ2 circa 2007 no expansions behold this point.

Would it be possible to introduce zones as they became populated?Jabantiz wrote:Our pvp is basic at best and never has had testing as there was never a real demand for it and other stuff took priority. I'm also interested in what admin tools are available. I'm sure there is plenty on that in the forums though. I'll do the digging.

Time locked will be simple to do in this case, content wise.
And thanks for the info on pvp. If you have any suggestion for custom pvp modes feel free to post them or other ideas in the server development forum, best that we know what to consider before serious development starts on it. Again our main focus is content right now so pvp may still be a ways off.

Yes you can lock or unlock what ever zones you want.Would it be possible to introduce zones as they became populated?

As for admin tools there are a few, there is a lua editor for public use. Our main tool we use is a private php editor, John made it all himself and as far as I know has no plans to release it. You can browse our tools svn (svn info link on the left) though not all of them are up to date.

The best help right now would be details. Specifics on how the current system works, what it was like back during RoK, also popular ideas on improvements. We try to keep customization in mind as we develop core systems the more info we have up front the more likely we can make a more dynamic system. All this info would best be posted in the Server Development forums.kafodoo wrote:Can you guys give us the players some options on how to help make a pvp server that is set back to kos era?
I will say PvP won't be soon as we are an extremely small team and our current focus is on content, even a PvP server with no content won't be very fun, and content is extremely time consuming process. But we do plan to support it.
