First off Welcome to our small community.
It is still alive, we are just a very small team and we all have busy real lifes so we do go through periods like now where we aren't as active as we would like to be.
What areas are you interested in helping with?

Anything really
I'm just a bit curious in what direction you are going for, is it the "original EQ2 experience" like a P1999 or if it's going to be a like a "tool" to build your own world? As for me I kinda want the oldschool eq2 to play with some friends, relive the past a bit
Just got my DoV box a few days ago and just started tinkering around with the database trying to fill it with some content. Thought there might be a way to script in content from websources (like census and alla perhaps) somebody might even have tried this before?

Re: Just how interested are you?
We have some tools that does go through zam and fill in the db with some info. Our main source of info though is raw packet logs we collect from live that we then parse and use to fill in the db. Check out tools svn for any of the random tools we have, some are out of date though fyi. Also all the content on the EQ2Emulator server can be obtained through the content svn. Both svn's should have there info on the svn link on the left.
As for our goal, we are basically just recreating live at the moment to provide the ground work for others to tweak their own servers if they choose. I personally would love an RoK era server as that is when I had the most fun. With our small team however it is best for us to replicate live the best we can and that even takes a large amount of time, this game is huge and surprisingly complex in some aspects.
