Server Help (Probably something silly but had to ask)

Post by wisperin » Thu Jan 31, 2008 8:47 pm

Sorry to trouble you guys but I've searched the site and found things that were close to my problem but not quite the same so I figured I'd ask for some advice. Ok, I've installed Eq2 straight from the CD's (says SoE version 1360), did NOT patch, went through the server setup process and have gotten to the point where I can run world and it says connected to login server:eq2emulator.net:9100. (using version 0.4)I can see my server on the website list of servers but when i log into the game and start creating a character my server doesn't show up in the list of available servers. (There is a blank server name at the top of the list but it can't be selected. (not sure if that is supposed to be there or not) If I try to connect to another server it just sits there saying "Waiting for character name approval" All Ip's are set to either 127.0.0.1 or localhost. (tried both ways) No firewall is getting in the way, Tried setting rules for it as well as disabling the firewall. No help either way. I'm sure thiat it's something simple and I'll feel like an idiot but I've been trying to figure it out for 3 days and got frustrated enough to ask for help. hehe Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

Sounds to me like you have a port forwarding problem. Have you tried your internal IP (192.168.2.xxx?) or your external? (www.whatismyip.com)
In case of a firewall or router, you need to allow port 9000 on the machine hosting the server. Everything can be changed in LoginServer.ini, if you need forwarding help, go to www.portforward.com.
Good luck!

Thank you for responding. I have since learned that I get the same results even if I don't have "world" running. I discovered this when I launched the game before I realized that "world" wasn't running. (not sure if that gives any indication of what is going on or not, but I'm pretty certain that you're not supposed to be able to do that to begin with) If I simply launch the game I get to the login screen, I log in, I create a toon and still see the same servers, there are 3 servers that show up, every time the same 3. A blank server name, Lethal Encounter Server & counter server. Everything I have is running on one machine and I am (at the moment) only trying to create a testing ground world to test with so no other machines will be logging in. Correct me if I'm wrong but that would rule out port forwarding right? I mean, if everything is on one machine and all IP's are set to 127.0.0.1 or localhost then only my machine would be able to connect. Still confused. I will try changing the IP's to 192.168.x.x and see if that helps. Thanks again for helping.

See, now here's a problem I'm also facing.
Recently, LethaEncounter 'cleaned up' the LoginServer Servers listing. He filtered out all the servers that don't have their ports properly forwarded (or are not the latest version). In that respect, I suspect that we may not see our world servers anymore. I suppose we'll have to wait for an answer from LE.

I didn't disallow logins based on port settings. It is based on version (0.4 only) and username/password. Where are you getting SoE version 1360? If you are using a disk set older than RoK, then you MUST patch to play the game.

Success! That fixed it! Thank you. i knew it was something simple like that but i was afraid to patch because there are a lot of posts telling you NOT to patch. However I can verify that SoE build 4639L works. Now I'm off to start spawning things. :) Thanks again!
