Combat Range

Post by Gangrenous » Fri May 13, 2016 9:01 pm

I think we need a rule MaxCombatRange instead of a constant. The combat range seems a bit off. I think it is currently at 3, which probably does need to be around the default value, maybe a bit less. Probably going to need an entire Combat section in rules, I imagine it will get full quickly. Plus with the addition of /reload rules you can change it on the fly.

Code: Select all

		/* COMBAT */
	RULE_INIT(R_Combat, MaxCombatRange, "3");				// Default: 3
I basically did a mass replace on the constant value with....

Code: Select all

rule_manager.GetGlobalRule(R_Combat, MaxCombatRange)->GetInt16()
For the constant value. It is working, I can change it and do a /reload rules to test my new settings. Just my opinion, I change my source.

Further testing, it is the initial range when you attack the mob that appears to be the issue. Once you move away from the mob and everything centers up again, things look right. The initial range appears to be the problem.

I will be honest on this, I have no clue where "3" came from and it makes no sense to me, it just seemed to work, but yea turning it into a rules isn't bad for people who want to tweak the range on there server.

Combat in general needs a lot of equations figured out, once that happened I had planned to add rules, mainly for multipliers, the problem is we can never figure out equations that work well and searching the internet only gives you stuff for after soft caps and max level, never anything for say a lvl 15 with average gear, and the equations don't scale well.

But, if there are rules for most things, then can be tweaked. It is nice to be able to change a rule on the fly and just sit in GM Hall and do some parsing. What I did on my EqEmu server was parse live, then parse my server and adjust. It took around a week but I got things where I liked them. My server will not be emulating EQ2 Live so it is not an issue for me. I just want plenty of rules so I can tweak my heart out.
