Attacking NPC crashes client (4412L)

Post by John Adams » Thu Jan 31, 2008 12:21 am

I can't find anyone else having this problem, so maybe (again) it's just me. But in tutorial_island02, attacking one of the crabs on the short seems to crash the client after a few hits. Once it was immediate, and just now it took a few hits and the crabs health got about 1/2 way down.
Now I am fairly sure I haven't set the mobs HPs or anything, or any stats not a part of the rawdata... so maybe this is my problem? I'll fiddle with that in the morning. Just thought I'd mention it to see if anyone wanted to try it out for themselves.
Thanks,
-J

Send me (pm) your sql spawn and I will test it :P

It's not the world that is crashing, it's the EQ2 client. The world stays up and running with no problems, even with other clients connected. Just spawn any one NPC and attack it, if it'll happen for you, that's all I did.

Hmm, I'll try to get a client crash on your server.

I couldn't get it to crash my client. I did notice that it wasnt displaying the text message saying you gained exp. Did you comment that out or something?

No sir, I haven't tweaked any code yet. Not sure if you're getting this too, but when I right-click on an NPC, I get a "Weeee!" dialog, with something about error text display.
I'll update the server to the latest code and go whack on a few more crabs today - see if I can get a clue what's happening. So it's not related to them having no HP value or other stats then?
What client version are you using? RoK box?

I figured out the problem with it not displaying messages. It is fixed in the latest. The problem with that could have caused your client to crash. About the Weee! message, that was just me testing the ability to send commands for a spawn.

Just loaded up rev 64, and I can fight the crab to the death without crashing. I do see a "gained xp" message as well.
That's pretty awesome. Something else to do besides marvel at the pretty zone art. :) Thank you.

Nah, it wasn't a matter of IF it could be done, just a matter of WHEN. :) Turns out it was a simple packet that we werent sending. Once that was modified and sent, it was easy to get it working the way we wanted it to work.
