XML parsing error

Post by Skywalker646 » Thu Nov 29, 2018 9:49 pm

Hi all,

I was trying to wrap up my private server so i went to run the eq2world.exe to patch the server and i keep getting a message saying there was a parsing eror in log_config.xml

says file not found at line 0, column 0

Problem is i see the file so not sure what is wrong.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Just to make sure the log_config.xml is in the same folder with eq2world.exe right?

Thanks for the response. I thought I had done everything as I had to but it turns out they were in different folders. I remedied that so I no longer get the error message. However, the window closes as soon as I open it. I've tried the regular exe file and the 64 bit version l, as well as trying to open as an admin but it just disappears immediately.

Glad you solved that issue.

As for the window closing right away, that is usually caused by the database failing to connect. Double check your username/password/address/and db name to ensure it is all valid.

I swear we had a guide for minilogin on the wiki but I can not for the life of me find it. Maybe Cynnar knows where it is.

Well crap. has been years since I used minilogin or set up a login server for myself. I will have to go over the process again and figure it all out.

Skywalker646 feel free to ask any questions here and as soon as I figure it out I will get back to you.

i really appreciate it! i guess my wuestion would be is there a specific place the files have to be? and do i have to set specific things in the set up files?

Off topic, is a private server that uses the minilogin dependent on the website? I only ask in the sense that if this site ever came down or the project was ended could a private emulator still function on its own?

Also, can a server be LAN based if it was just meant for a family?

Thanks!

The struct files (CommonStructs.xml, ItemStructs.xml, etc) found in the trunk/structs folder of the source will need to be either symlinked or copied/moved to the same folder that your EQ2World.exe folder is in. Same goes for the config files located in the trunk/configs folder of the source. I am not sure if it is needed, or if it is built, or included somewhere, but
zlib.zip
needs to be in that directory as well. When you get the content scripts from the svn you need to copy or symlink those folders into the EQ2World.exe directory. These should be the ItemScripts, Quests, SpawnScripts, Spells, and ZoneScripts folders. Be sure to copy the folders themselves and paste in the EQ2World.exe directory as the scripts contained inside those folders need to stay inside those folders when moved/copied (hope that made sense).

Minilogin is really more for LAN. It is not dependent on the website at all. There is a cap of 5 players from what I hear, but I have never tried it so I don't know. Will get with Jabantiz to see if it is true or not.

As for the site ever coming down, unless it is a cease and desist then it will not shut down. Maybe some issues here and there, but I will keep it alive.

Minilogin and its files/configs can be dropped in the same folder as the server, or if you want to keep it separate it can be in its own folder.

Yes minilogin can be lan only just set the ip addresses to the local ip addresses. When using minilogin there is no dependency on the website at all so it will always work even if the site is down. Like cynnar said though there is a limit to 5 accounts on a minilogin.

As for the config files I believe all you need to do for minilogin is to change login_db.ini to point to your login db. The login server does also rely on the xml structs so those will also need to be copied over, that is why I prefer to drop mine in the same folder as the server exe so I only need to copy struct to one spot when they are updated.

About the minlogin.

From the ReadMe.txt on the svn. SVN Username: anonymous (no password required)
  • source in the eq2logindb.sql
  • Modify login_db.ini to reflect the mysql database
  • Modify your eq2_default.ini such as you did to setup for eq2emulator.net
  • You can have up to 5 accounts using id's 1-5, you add an account either through another tool or in mysql.exe:
    • insert into account set name='thename',passwd=md5('thepasswd');
    • Verify their ID's by doing the command:
    • select * from account;
    • If you need to change an ID to a different number the following command should be used:
    • update account set id=# where name='thename';
  • To add a world server do:
    • insert into login_worldservers set name='The World',account='loginacct',password=md5('thepass'),chat_shortname='shortname';
    • make sure the server id is set to 1, or it will not function.
    • The command below will list all the world servers:
    • select * from login_worldservers;
    • If the ID is not 1 do the following command:
    • update login_worldservers set id=1 where name='thename';
