Cannot create alts?

Post by John Adams » Thu Feb 14, 2008 4:53 pm

Is this new?

I do not remember having a problem making an alt with my other level 1 toon on the same account, same server before.
I think it's a great idea, but is it configurable in `variables`? I guess I could go code diving, but it's much more fun to ask. :)

More than likely a problem of some sort. The code that would respond like that hasn't been written yet.

Damn, you're good. Just thinking about the code makes it work. Amazing!

Isn't there also a 6-char limit on each player account?
Hopefully that code has not been implemented either! 8)

I can't remember initially what the max chars were, but I know Station Access players got 2 extra (bringing it to 10, I think?) Not sure if they implemented veteran rewards for additional slots after.
I agree though. If the client allows it, we should have as many toons as we can stand. Since EQ2 does not tie toons to Servers like EQ1 did, that was always a pain in the ass to comprehend. But, as usual, I wound up playing 1 toon anyway so shrug. Didn't matter much on live. Here, it would tho...

Strangely I ALWAYS used to max out all my characters on live. I love changing between chars.

I believe I set the max to 10 characters on emu.

Here's a scenario:
One person makes a bunch of characters on random servers. Once he hits that (10) limit, he can no longer create alts unless he deletes a previous character.
What if the server will never come up again? The only way to get those characters deleted are by asking you LE, since you have total access to the Login server. I think it would be a good idea to have a PHP Widget to delete certain characters from the login server on the main EQ2 page.

The character limit was 12 with Station Access (this was pre-Arasai, and being a UI developer at the time, I coded my Character Switcher to support up to 12 characters). I don't know if they've added any additional slots with the Arasai and Sarnak though.

I am actually having a problem that might be connected to this. For me, I have characters attached to my account that do not exist on my server. This includes 2 characters (Jedak and Aubryn) that had been deleted previously and a third character that is a duplicate of my test character (Jonas) that I never created. I have tried deleting the local file that holds the characters, but it seems the login still thinks they exist, so it is re-downloading the same list time after time.
It is possible that John has characters that have been deleted, but for some reason thelogin still thinks they exist.

Well, currently World does not send a list of characters to the Login server for obvious network reasons. If a server admin deletes the characters from their server, the characters will still be shown on the Login screen because they were not deleted properly. I suppose I could verify the characters with that particular server when they login and delete them if they aren't on the server. However, even this method would be bad for someone that might use their server on more than one database.
If you have a solution let me know.

LE, would it be possible to have the LoginServer validate current existing chars on a server-by-server basis at the time the server starts up and connects? Maybe on a schedule of once per day/week so those of us restarting constantly do not flood the server with these requests?
Or give admins the ability to delete dead accounts on the LS with an in-game command, or a web interface tied to their own ServerID?

Hmm, yah I guess I could do that. Maybe once every few days ask the server for a list of all valid characters and delete the ones not on the list. In addition I'll probably make some kind of a page that will allow people to delete their characters from the website, so that they can delete them if the server is offline.

Not sure if you are "tinkering" right now, haha... but since this post, I cannot get into my server at all, and see dupes of my toons (across accounts even) if I change from one acct to the other.
I have so many things going wrong today, I am almost certain it's me. :D
Error this time is:

Code: Select all

< verify > ...GameScene.cpp (16238)
u32_delta_size == cmd.u32BufSize
Happening on 2 different computers, RoK Box client, rev 70 of EQ2World.exe
I see someone on my server now, doing kills without a problem, so I don't think it's the World. LS maybe? I have been deleting all my cache/crash stuff between runs.

Oh, you know what one change I just made? updated all "tutorial_island02" current_zone to the new name. Just opened the verifylog.txt file, and I think the LS still thinks I am in tutorial_island02.
Could that be a problem?
