if adding a number make sure the autoitem id starts at 1000000 1 million, but allow an override
this is so when we finally get a mass import we can continue the import using the same numbering scheme we currently have

Good idea, Ememjr.

Taking a look at this today, though I have limited time.

My first thought is to give you a simple Add Item(s) option, inserting only the most required data (name, type, etc) and then dropping you at the editor to fill out the rest as needed.

Another feature could be to "clone" an existing item ( Jabantiz request ) that will make a new item based on an existing one - or (qty) of new items based on 1 existing. Autonaming them so you can find and edit the clones.

(Re)Setting up my local dev environment is proving a challenge, since my code is so damn old it entirely does not work on PHP 7.1 :) so if all my time is spent bringing it to working order just to start this, it might take a while. Stay tuned.
