Login server question

Post by Riven » Sun Oct 14, 2007 11:44 pm

Will always login server be as now is? I'm asking that because I have no internet atm at home, and I think more people will be like this, so having login server through internet is a problem. Will we have a local login server any time?
Thanks in advance

Aye, We will release a minilogin eventually, but as of right now it is a low priority. My highest priority right now is to fix the crash bugs and other problems with the code before I move on to anything else.

Holy waking the dead!
Btw, for anyone who wants to start talking about this again - understand that Minilogin (the ability to run a local server without connecting to the public login server) is wayyyyyy low on the priority list. In fact, you'll probably see an 80% functioning emulator before Minilogin gets tackled.
Reason being, before 500 private servers start popping to life, we'd like to get many people on _our_ hosted servers for testing.

Before Minilogin I think my idea should get implemented... MULTIPLE LOGIN SERVERS! I can host one.

That's a good idea if everyone connected to the same server, so on top of that let's merge all the private servers into one big server, and for people who want custom content can "zone" into another server which acts like an instance zone, you know, you can do like a quest or something to gain access to these "zones" without the server admins having to create the same non-custom content over and over again :D

I think that Minilogin would be very nice for the community, because then many people could run server without depends on a Login Server, and more people using the server --> more testers and more people interested in help to LE in the development of the server.
People love the independence!!

Well if the database team ever has a chance to get a fully populate database completed, every server admin would simply use it instead of having to recreate the same content.
However, your idea made me think of something that I hadnt considered yet: Creating a global zone that all servers have the option of enabling/disabling but that allows the people from all servers to zone into. Technically this global zone wouldnt actually be a zone, but would act like a zone hub and would transfer information about connected worlds and characters to all other connected worlds. This would ensure that the characters arent in limbo if the master global server goes down, they just wouldnt see anyone else from other servers. Obviously trade in this global zone would have to be disabled to prevent item exploits but the zone could be used for chat, showing off items, etc.
