/spawn add: How To Spawn

Post by John Adams » Thu Sep 11, 2008 12:12 pm

Actual Title:
How to put something back you accidentally /spawn removed

The "/spawn remove" command does not remove the actual `spawn` record from the database, only the zonespawngroup, zonespawnentry and zonespawns records that make the entity appear in the zone. This means if you target Paula Marx and delete her, then say "OOPS! I didn't mean to do that!", no fear!

Step 1:
Go to the EQ2DB Editor and look up Paula Marx in the Queen's Colony zone. Find her `spawn`.`id` (eg., 2530000)

Step 2:
Go stand in the spot you want her to spawn in. (eg, 12, 0, -22)

Step 3:
Type /spawn 2530000 <enter>

Step 4:
With Paula standing on you now, target her and type /spawn add new

("new" simply makes a new zonespawngroup at the current coords)

That's it, really 2 commands to get your spawn back.

After you get the spawn saved, you can /reload spawns to ensure the World knows about your newly placed spawn, and you won't have issues with such things as "/spawn move" or other /spawn commands.

Also, be very very careful when manually spawning an NPC that belongs to another zone! Say you spawned Paula Marx in Antonica, then decided she needed a different robe... Welp, changing 2530000's robe in Antonica will change the robe of 2530000 in Queen's Colony as well.

This is why I'd prefer, if you need to spawn a new version of an NPC in a new zone that it currently does not belong in, use /spawn create and build an entirely new model instead. But we'll get into that later.

How come there are 2 spawns of most NPC's?

This usually happens when you parse two separate log files that contain the same spawns.
