Questions

Post by Khylie » Tue Sep 23, 2008 7:51 am

I did some searching but didn't find my answers. This is going to be semi long so please bear with me.
I currently run my own EQ server but I would much rather run EQ2. I have my own log in server for EQ so that I can control who is on my network. I have a very select group of friends that I like to play with.
So here are my questions. If I get my own copy of EQ2 RoK can I log into the EQ2 server that you have set up to help test without updating the engine? I would like to set up my own EQ2 server as well to help test but my bandwidth is limited so would I be able to limit who can log into my server? Are there plans to make a "minilogin" type authentication so that I am not using your bandwidth? (edit) What are the server specs that I need to have to run?
I had more questions then that but I can't remember them at the moment. Maybe I will after I get my questions answered.
Thanks for your time! And great work on this project. I know that it take a lot of time and energy to do something like this and even though I'm not currently playing on your server at the moment, the hard work you've put into this is astounding.

You will be able to play with the original RoK box. If you get it soon however, I *believe* the newest live client is still compatible with EQ2emu but if you do decide to patch, please back up your client unless you feel like installing it again :)
You could limit who plays on your server by locking your server, having your friends create a character on your server, then once they have created a character (they wont be able to log in yet), you can set their admin status in the DB high enough to log into your locked server.
I believe there are plans for a minilogin, but I doubt it'll even be considered until the emulator much further down the line, but you'd have to ask LE that one! :P

Thanks for the quick response. I really want to help this project along. I had tried to download the free version that EQ2 gives but that evidently is not compatible with your build so I thought if I ordered the RoK DVD's I could at least help out with that if the server would support that. I did read that there might be plans to support the newest expansion so I was hesitant to get the RoK. Should I wait to get it or will the server still support the client if you do decide to support it?
