As a complete hypothetical, if I were to change the ini file 'before' trying to log in after a clean install.. would it update to the current emulator settings?
As mentioned before, I did the 'playthefae' thing, registered an account and applied about 7 hours of patchs.. only to be told i can't log in to the emulator, best thing I can try is a 14 day trial.
Also, not sure if I have done everything right, but if I use my station pass, I can login, but the emulator pass just comes back saying invalid.. I hope this is because the emulator server doesn't recognise my client version. Can anyone confirm or fill me in on these questions?
Cheers

The only clients that I know for a fact are supported here are the RoK box set + various game updates/patches since the release of RoK. I cannot confirm that trial or playthefae work, because it's not so much about the specific client as the version of the data required to communicate.
Start your client in Windowed Mode, and look at the title bar to get the date/version. If it is not at least 4012L, you are probably out of luck until you purchase RoK (or the upcoming tSO?). If your client is greater than rev 5166L, you simply need to wait until the data is validated and the loginserver bumped to accept the newer client(s).
As for your bad pwd, if you cannot connect to our loginserver, you either did not register a player account as specified in the Player Guide, or you have not changed your eq2_defaults.ini as also instructed in the Player Guide.

Thanks John, as it turns out the bad pass thing was me not clicking the everquest2 icon and going to the eq2 one.. which changes the ini file back to the default setting.
Am going to try the 'change before patch' option and see if it works.. can't be any worse than what I have currently. time and data isn't an issue for me.
Thanks again

If you have the wrong client for EQ2 to be compatible with the emulator you will need to go into IRC for assistance.
Please read the topic, it has instructions of what you need to do.
