If you do not have the supported EverQuest 2 box sets or current supported client installed, you cannot play on EQ2Emulator servers.
Step 1:
Install EverQuest II, compatible versions are:
- The Shadow Odyssey Box Set (unpatched client version ???)
Various compatible Patched versions include, but are not limited to:
- EQ2Emu 0.6.0:
- Build 5016L
EQ2Emu 0.6.5:
- Build 5016L
- Build 5166L
.
.
.
- Build 6196L
- Any current version from SOE*
Rise of Kunark Box Set- version 4412L (this was supported until recently, however bugs have cropped up causing incompatibility)
Trial of the Isle
Play the Fae
The streaming client (this included the current trial versions)
Anything "free" or what you got from your buddy or a torrent
you will NOT be able to play the emu.
Period.
* Note however, due to the incredible dynamics of EQ2Emulators design, newer Clients usually become compatible as needed. But do not trust in this, always ALWAYS backup your working, compatible copy first.
Steps you can take to ensure your client is always compatible with EQ2Emulator:
- 1. ALWAYS make a backup of a currently compatible Everquest II folder. That is, once you get a client that is working with EQ2Emulator, make a COPY of that folder somewhere else on your hard drive and DO NOT PATCH IT AGAIN. If you do, you will be incompatible, and you will be very sad.
2. Use a clean, freshly installed, RoK or TSO client. Those are guaranteed to be compatible. Well, nothing in life is guaranteed, but you get the drift.
3. If you do patch to Live and foolishly did not heed our warnings, and find yourself incompatible again, log into IRC via one of these methods found here and ask for help from our friendly community members.
4. If that doesn't work, you can usually check out our 3rd Party Tools forum for any utilities community members may have contributed (not supported nor sanctioned by the EQ2Emulator Project)
Step 2:
Now you need to create an account on the EQ2Emu Login Server, fill out the form located at: http://www.eq2emulator.net/index.php?page=14
Step 3:
Open up your EverQuest 2 directory and find eq2_default.ini, the first line should have 'cl_ls_address' followed by a long list of IP addresses ( ex. 123.456.789.01 ), replace the entire line to read: cl_ls_address eq2emulator.net
Step 4:
Once that is done run your EverQuest2.exe in the directory and when prompted for the username/password use the information you submitted in the registration form on Step 2.
Two important things:
- 1. DO NOT RUN THE EVERQUEST2 SHORTCUT (eq2.exe) or LAUNCHPAD. Run Everquest2.exe instead.
2. DO NOT USE YOUR FORUM NAME/PASSWORD.
