Player Guide

Post by Cadimiom » Sat Oct 13, 2007 7:17 pm

This is a basic guide for those who wish to play on EQ2EMu servers.

If you do not have the supported EverQuest 2 box sets or current supported client installed, you cannot play on EQ2Emulator servers.

Step 1:
Install EverQuest II, compatible versions are:
  • The Shadow Odyssey Box Set (unpatched client version ???)

Various compatible Patched versions include, but are not limited to:
  • EQ2Emu 0.6.0:
    - Build 5016L

    EQ2Emu 0.6.5:
    - Build 5016L
    - Build 5166L
    .
    .
    .
    - Build 6196L
Versions we know are NOT compatible:
  • Any current version from SOE*
Rise of Kunark Box Set- version 4412L (this was supported until recently, however bugs have cropped up causing incompatibility)
    Trial of the Isle
    Play the Fae
The streaming client (this included the current trial versions)
Anything "free" or what you got from your buddy or a torrent ;)
Note: The version is listed in the title bar when you open EverQuest 2.

If you do NOT have a compatible client version
you will NOT be able to play the emu.

Period.

* Note however, due to the incredible dynamics of EQ2Emulators design, newer Clients usually become compatible as needed. But do not trust in this, always ALWAYS backup your working, compatible copy first.

Steps you can take to ensure your client is always compatible with EQ2Emulator:
  • 1. ALWAYS make a backup of a currently compatible Everquest II folder. That is, once you get a client that is working with EQ2Emulator, make a COPY of that folder somewhere else on your hard drive and DO NOT PATCH IT AGAIN. If you do, you will be incompatible, and you will be very sad.

    2. Use a clean, freshly installed, RoK or TSO client. Those are guaranteed to be compatible. Well, nothing in life is guaranteed, but you get the drift.

    3. If you do patch to Live and foolishly did not heed our warnings, and find yourself incompatible again, log into IRC via one of these methods found here and ask for help from our friendly community members.

    4. If that doesn't work, you can usually check out our 3rd Party Tools forum for any utilities community members may have contributed (not supported nor sanctioned by the EQ2Emulator Project)
With all these options available, you truly should never a) be incompatible again, or b) have any questions about what versions are compatible. Questions like that will likely go ignored by the dev teams. :P

Step 2:
Now you need to create an account on the EQ2Emu Login Server, fill out the form located at: http://www.eq2emulator.net/index.php?page=14

Step 3:
Open up your EverQuest 2 directory and find eq2_default.ini, the first line should have 'cl_ls_address' followed by a long list of IP addresses ( ex. 123.456.789.01 ), replace the entire line to read: cl_ls_address eq2emulator.net
eq2_default.jpg

Step 4:
Once that is done run your EverQuest2.exe in the directory and when prompted for the username/password use the information you submitted in the registration form on Step 2.

Two important things:
  • 1. DO NOT RUN THE EVERQUEST2 SHORTCUT (eq2.exe) or LAUNCHPAD. Run Everquest2.exe instead.
    2. DO NOT USE YOUR FORUM NAME/PASSWORD.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

You can download client patches using EQ2.exe in your client directory. If you dont have an account you can always sign up for one free by going here:

If you are running off a Download Limit (like I am), or have a slow internet connection and you want to get patched A.S.A.P. you can change the eq2_default.ini before you patch, you still patch, and that way you don't have to kill 80mb of your limit for the play the fae link.

Just a FYI, I couldn't connect with client version 4410, but I can with 4427.
So, if you're having trouble connecting - and you are using 4410, then update to 4427 and you'll be set.

You do not need a game card. All you need to do is goto Everquest 2 Offical site. Create a free trial account. There launch pad will get you all patched up.

You dont need a game card to play on this server. You dont need a game card if you follow LE's link to download the EQ2 Trial. You dont need a game card to patch.
No one will upload anything here for you.

This is the Play Guide, it is mean't for players who are just trying to play on the servers. Please refer to: http://eq2emulator.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=97 to setup a world server.
Please keep in mind your forum registration is NOT the same as your login information for EQ2 and also is NOT the same as the login information for the world server.
The http://eq2emulator.net/accountregistration.php page has two forms, the top form is for creating a account to use the EQ2Emu Login Server (For a player). Below it is a form to create a world server.

You follow the steps at the top of this post, if it does not work you didn't follow them properly.
