After you changed the ini file you need to open up the EverQuest2.exe not the EQ2.exe it seems.

My problems is that I can't get beyond this point, no matter what server I choose from the list, any ideas?

I highly suggest anyone having problems logging in or running their server come to irc (eq2emulator.net channel #eq2emu), real-time chat makes it a lot easier to debug issues.

Im having the same time, no matter what server i choose, i cant connect to any of them, and i'd hate to download IRC just to get an answer as i feel IRC is a waste of space on my computer. After all, it is a forum? thanks, in advance

ok so i downloaded stupid IRC and tried to connect to the channel and im only one there, no one on?

Ok these posts are getting too big if you need Support you need to go into IRC (Which has atleast 20 people right now and there is chatter going on) or the General Support forum.
