JCL wrote:I am unfortunately talking about the delay in combat. While this could be a network thing I have seen plenty of emulators run just fine with mid-range computers and not have lag. When I say delay you go to attack an enemy and a few seconds later you actually hit it or cast that spell while it hits you a couple times. Seems like a combat mechanic not network based. That's another thing; Enemies seemed to attack really quickly (which may just be a attack speed setting for them). I think he did fix the warping quite a bit though, but I'm going off of memory from playing months ago when you just started implementing changes.
Was this delay on your own local server or one of the public servers? Usually when I hit auto attack it starts right away same with spells, there is a rare exception of after a /reload auttoattack doesn't seem to work properly until you kill another mob with it on, haven't tracked that down yet but that doesn't sound like the issue here.

Any one else have this issue?

This was on the public EQ2Emulator server back in April. Auto attack and spells would not work instantly as you say they are. I tried logging into today with the 4/24/13 version but it said bad client. I tried updating and of course that didn't work because eq2emulator is not updated for that. I will watch for the version to get updated and will try again. I will probably record it too if the issue still exists and show you what I mean.

Ok, I saw that it got updated. Thanks for that :D. I logged in and did some testing. First thing I should mention is the rain seems to be always on and causes some graphical glitches. I am not sure if this is known because I did not see anything in the bug list. Besides that I tested combat and you're right that it is now working instantly. Now all that needs to be done is make all the spells work (which I know is going to be a pain). I also noticed mana values at the top left show empty or even negative even when not.

Are there any classes that are best to test with, as in have some of their spells working properly?

Yea i just got the new opcodes to John for the current live client the visual and character inconsistencies are from the character profile struct being off. Soon as i get some time unless someone beats me to it i will break down the packet and try to find what has been changed since SOE loves to change shit randomly.

Yep, as xinux said the stuff that's off visually are mostly all struct changes so once we get those set up they should be fixed, in the meantime I recommend you backup that client or even just the exe if you're short on disk space to use for the emu if you plan on testing more some other time :P

As for a good class to test with I think most mages have their spells 1-8 or so, spell data is something still being worked on but the rest of the player spells are planned already.

I forgot to bring my DoV discs with me. I even ripped an ISO of the discs on my home computer but I guess I forgot to put it on my external. So I won't be able to play until I get the disc again. I don't play the live version and the streaming client thing the live version of EQ2 has pissed me off when I tried it. I'll look on amazon tomorrow and see about ordering another disc gotta change hotels today so not sure where to send the disc until tomorrow ;p

I just install EQ2 off steam and have it download the whole game in the settings. You can patch as usual using the launcher or just run EverQuest2.exe and play the emulator (following the guide to change server address). And as they said above, make a backup of the game if you can.

I think the main thing holding me back is the combat/spells. A lot of features like houses, guilds, etc are nice but are fluff to me considering how important combat is. I'd like to help make spells and content but the last time I tried LUA I got confused the bigger the script got lol.

@JCL

The rain is also part of the character sheet, so when that gets fixed the rain should work properly

@Flunklesnarkin

There is a way to disable the streaming client and download the full thing, think that setting is in the launcher.
EDIT: JCL beat me to it

This goes for any one, if you are interested in helping out with lua feel free to message me with any questions you have, I will do my best to walk you through writing a script

The big problem is that the game is still not playable, how many zones are available atm? when you can play to the game until lvl50-60 althought it has a lot of bugs, more people will get involved in the emu.

Yup tornar, good point. We spent years developing just the server core, and now we have shifted to Content as a primary task. Hopefully by the end of this year, you should see more content in EQ2Emulator, with us slowly adding/fixing server core features along the way.

Got my discs finally. Gonna see if I can make this work on Windows 8. Last time I played EQ2emu was on an Win XP machine. (How I hate windows 8 :evil: )

edit..

Ok I got the game all installed and the configuration changed by following the wiki.

However, when I try to log on the log in screen just thinks forever. If I put in the wrong password it says so immediately so I think it's connecting to something.

I got windows firewall turned off and I figured out how to disable that annoying popup message about displaying mixed content. Do I need to adjust any other settings?

edit.. oh I forgot about that patch utility. I'll give that a shot. might add it to the wiki setup if it works.

Patcher made it work. I guess I just forgot my old accounts password if anybody can help with that. I suppose I'll mess around on another character until then.

We had a DB wipe when the latest round of items were put on EQ2TC for testing, so I recommend you just use the new account.

We could probably do with a DB for servers as well... even if it's literally just spells/CA's for classes so people can run around and make their own NPC's.

The one listed under content keeps crashing my SQL server.

EDIT: Never mind... finally got it... code fubar on my part.

We need a better installation how-to.

Good to know.

I probably should play around on a different character either way. I don't know much about the game mechanics or what should be where but I can spot things that are obviously wrong. I remember crashing the server a couple of times just messing around :mrgreen:

One thing that I notice is the wiki seems to be restricted. I can't edit it. says I'm not a member of the required phpbbb group or something along those lines. I was going to update the how to connect a bit and add some info for the DoV client. I don't think it makes sense to restrict editing access on a wiki because there are built in tools to revert bad edits and ban user accounts that cause trouble.
