I follow the instructions... and when I launch the EverQuest2.exe I get this error.
"EverQuestII has detected an unrecoverable error and must shut down. <verify> E:\live\eq2\framework\core\devices\src\DirectX9RenderDevice.cpp(1684):
DirectX Error.(D3DERR_INVALIDCALL)"
When I try and edit the eq2_default.ini it wont save.. I have to save it as a regular txt, could this be the problem?
I just want to play :(

That file has to be a .ini. If you save it as a .txt, change the extension to .ini
In addition to this I noticed the error is reading the eq2 directory as live/eq2. I just want to let you know that the live client WILL NOT work with the emulator. The last client that works with the emulator is 5122L I believe. If you don't have this client then the only client you can use if the one from the RoK box set.

that is what I installed... the RoK cd's
I started the game and it connected and patched. Should I not have let it do this?
I clicked the eq2.exe
Should i reinstall?

Don't run the eq2.exe, that is the patcher.
Uninstall, then reinstall. When you go to run the game, run everquest2.exe instead of eq2.exe. That will prevent the game from patching.

On the EQ2Emu Hompage is a link called play guide.
http://eq2emulator.net/guides.php.
If you read it take note to step 4
Step 4: Once that is done run your EverQuest2.exe in the directory and when prompted for the username/password use the information you submitted in the registration form on Step 2.
Note here that you are supposed to use the EverQuest2.exe. By using the eq2.exe you are downloading up to the most recent client (not guaranteed to be supported), and resetting your .ini file to connect back to the live servers. At this point, reinstall ROK, and re follow the steps exactly as laid out in the play guide.
Hope that helps.
