Hey gang,
I am going to try and play EQ2 emu...I am going to install the ROK tonight...I was just curious...can the patcher update all the way or do I gotta stop it off at a certain patch. Sorry to bother I just know it changes frequently and I don't wanna go to far and have to start over!
Thanks!

The EQ2 patcher doesn't work like WoW. The patcher isn't a series of patches, it is one patch that brings you to current. Patching to current won't work.
You are better off waiting until tomorrow and buying The Shadow Odyssey since, in all my tests, it seems as if the expansion will work with the emulator. We will just need LE to bump up the supported version to include the boxed expansion (and hopefully the patch for launch day).
If you do want to buy the RoK box, you cannot patch the game until the next live client is supported. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Right now I have ROK...so at this point I will have to buy the new expansion coming out tomorrow and wait for LE to bump it up correct? If so that is great! B/c my internet is so slow and trying to get patches is killer!
Thanks!

...wow, is that tomorrow already? Time sure flies!
Hey ray, ol buddy :) I'd install ROK and do not patch at all. That *should* still connect to the working emulators. Try TessEQ2 (mine) since it has data, and you'll know pretty quick if it works. If not, there is supposed to be an alternate patcher (but it is not mine, and I do not know if it's released, so that's all I'm gonna devulge heh).

Yup! Tomorrow is launch. Course if you pre-ordered from GameStop like me, you got the game today. :P

Since I am not really an EQ2 player (anymore), I hadn't considered buying this expansion until my duties here required it. Part of me is a little excited to see what it's all about though, so like many other expansions I swore I'd never buy (GoD, DoN, DoDH, and that other one...) I'll likely cave like a souffle'.

Still horribly addicted here...
Speaking from my experiences in beta, this expansion is very good for people who like to group. With over 20 group oriented instances varying in difficulty from kinda hard to ZOMG! and a new AA tree its got a little bit for everyone.

The good news is that the box client seems to work with only a minor opcode/struct change. The RoK box will still be supported whenever possible, but I see no reason not to make this client the preferred client.

Not to push my luck, but any chance of using the live client soon? :P

I'll need to do some updates to various structs/opcodes but yah I don't think it will take me too long to get it working.

Wow...
Just... wow.
You know, when your gut tells you something, you should always follow it. I bought these discs from Amazon, they just arrived, popped it into the DVD drive and bam - CRC errors. I look at the surface of the disc and it looks like someone ran it through a cheese grater. Both box sets (one for me, one for g/f), useless.
While I can still use the keys, it just pisses me off that there is no "Q" in "Quality" anymore.

Wow, I would take it back. Mine didn't have any problems and besides that you want at least one copy of the expansion in case you ever need to reinstall and the current live client doesnt work with the emu.

Aye, I submitted a return/exchange through Amazon, so we'll see how that goes. Amazon is usually pretty good about exchanges, but being software, who knows.
Meanwhile, reloading RoK and patching :/
Question: Is it pretty much the same client if you patch RoK as if you bought the box ( + post-release patches, of course)? Or is there something unique about the box set you only get if you purchase it?
I understand the key gets you the tSO features/zones. Just wondering if my testing the emu with a patched RoK will be viable.
