I downloaded RoK/Odyssey via SOE's free trial page and the went into IRC and used the patch provided to make sure it was the right client. Patched and loaded Eq2, get as far as character creation and server list, when I try to log into a server I just get the "Connecting to zone" screen and nothing happens.

If you're connecting to TCRC or image's server, you won't be able to connect. Use Val's server. If you still can't connect, try turning off alternate appearances (if you have them on). I'm a noob, too, and I can't verify if the alternate appearances thing had anything to do with it, but I know TCRC and image's server are not able to be connected to.

Not even Val's server is logging me in. By the way, alternative models have nothing to do with it since its just a graphical improvement which is provided by the game client, not the game server. Was you able to log into Val's server?

Well, now that Tess is up, it's a reliable way of testing as, as far as I'm aware, anyone can connect if they're set up properly.

It seems that one works

Shame its more like a predone fun server than an actual simulation of EQ2.

The EQ2 simulation is coming. From what I understand, Tess is eventually supposed to be classic EQ2 with mage>enchanter>illusionist. However, the entire thing is basically in alpha or pre-alpha, so you really, really can't expect too much. Frankly, just being able to run around Antonica again was mind-blowing.
... I'm holding out for alternate appearances. <3

I don't really know what this means. What is a "predone fun server"?

I think he means non-legit instead of legit.
