Food/Drink

Is it safe to assume food and drink act as "buffs", al la Spells? They are showing up in my raw Spells info so I thought I'd ask... I don't remember them having a cast timer, but definitely a duration where regens (and other stuff?) get a bonus.

Does food/drink also raise stats (like in EQ1) by just having it on your person, or only when you are consuming it?

I am only a little confused about food because I know it is an Item, a crafting result(item), plus a buff of sorts, and now a maintained spell(?) - and I am heavily medicated due to a severe head cold so forgive my failing memory :)

Thx

Yes they do acts as "buffs", most food/drink have a combination of stats i.e. http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Halasian_Icebrew

and yes they have an icon in your maintained spells window.
Food increases your out of combat Health regen and drink your Power regen

Food and drink can also increase stats. There are a lot of mandatory food/drink for main tanks because it increases their avoidance and such.

But does the food/drink raise stats by simply being in your inventory/equipped, like some foods in EQ1? Or is it only upon activation? That's the other part. I imagine it would be treated as a buff spell if the latter. If the former, then like gear.

All food/drink types I have heard of have to be used, and they behave just like any other buff. However, I don't see any reason that you couldn't add stats to food items that are in your equip slots. I just havent seen it on live.

You have to equip them in your food and drink slot and then consume them for to give you any benefit.

Yep. If you have them equipped in your food/drink slot and are not consuming them, then you will not gain stat benefits until you consume your food/drink, which gives you the buff.

Yeah, when you consume them, not only does it have a buff on you, but you will see the stats. I can't remember if it's in the persona in the normal UI, but with profit UI, it shows your health and power regen per tick.

Excellent, thanks guys. One thing I might need to figure out still is a 0 (zero) cast time. Seems when you "consume" edibles, they just apply. No cast bar or anything. So I am still a little confused whether or not these are considered "spells" or not.

LE may have to look at a packet while consuming these to tell us... but it's not urgent immediately. Just getting the facts together.

There are several other spells in the game that have an instant cast timer (I think it actually says Instant under cast time in the spell examine window). Most of them are emergency spells. When cast, they don't show a casting bar, so food/drink could be done that way and just not have any animation.

I can't remember, but don't emergency heals have a casting animation despite their instant casting time? I have not played a healer myself since EQ1, but for some reason I remember they having them.

Yes, I believe they do have an animation.

What is the problem? Instant cast spells should work just fine, just put a 0 in the field.

So a cast time of 0 means boom- spell applied, no graphics, animations, flurry of leaves, nothing? Ok, well I guess we'll have to try that. :)

Just try it and if it doesn't work like Live let me know...
