Weather

Post by LethalEncounter » Sat Jan 03, 2009 11:32 pm

How did you guys want weather to behave in the emu? I never really liked the way that weather was implemented in EQ1 or EQ2. It just seemed like an afterthought and the frequency was far too long for my tastes. When I was playing the game, weeks (real life) would go by without seeing any weather events. Now that I FINALLY discovered the secret to where they were hiding the weather information we can implement whatever weather system we wish. What I was thinking was having the ability to customize weather on a per zone basis, allowing the frequency/intensity to be specified, etc. Any suggestions?

I like that idea completely. Maybe a weather_type array, where you can set multiple patterns, or seasonal patterns... plus a min/max range for duration of any given pattern. That way if someone doesn't want weather at all, they can simply turn it off. God-like.

Can you make it never become nighttime, too? (inside joke)

"Hm that was weird, it just suddenly became noon".
/who all
"Oh, John just logged on, no wonder"

I like this idea, you mean we could make it snow more often say in Everfrost than in Antonica?

While I have never noticed in game eq2 always like to brag how it can make the weather different depending where you are in the zone.
I think this would be pretty cool feature to have and also usable by lua so you could implement a quest like "Silence the scary forest" and have a big group of trees with rain, lightning, thunder and all dark and depressing . while the rest of the zone is sunny and clear. so when the char kills all the quest trees from over there that portion of the zone becomes like the rest instead of all depressing.

Yup and speaking of snow. If one of you guys are out and it starts to snow could you get me a log of it snowing? The log doesn't need to have the actually start of the snow, just while the snow is still falling. They must send snow a little different than they send rain.

Embarrassingly, I attempted to capture some snowing in Everfrost - with my level 29 Pally. Wasn't very successful.

Did you know that the sea creatures who are not KOS suddenly become KOS when you get into the water and cannot get out fast? Yeah. Someone who is much higher level than me will need to go collect some snow fall.

If no one has captured snow yet, I am willing to do it ... assuming I can get the collector to work without shutting my internet off lol.

Edit: Yeah same thing as before, winpcap disconnects my internet after installing.

Can anyone ever remember it snowing outside of Everfrost? If so they must have a super secret way of doing so because I can't get anything but rain for certain zones. The same packet that produces rain in Antonica produces snow in Everfrost :/

I do not recall it ever doing anything but sun or rain in Antonica or Commonlands.

You would think it would snow in Frostfell, but I can't remember seeing it ever.

If you have rok, go to kylong plains, there are two or three different weather patterns in the same zone. I can grab it for ya on Friday when I get back if you don't have it

Yes please if you dont mind. When the weather changes could you have your character say something so I know when it does as I look through the log?

Thanks!
