Phase 2: Additional Starting Zones
Posted: Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:48 pm
With the Queen's Colony and the Outpost of the Overlord nearing completion as far as spawns and quests/scripts go, I wanted to lay out what I feel is the next most important task - and as usual, it starts with me getting off my butt and getting Spawns done =)
Phase 1 of our work was basically to get "all our ducks in a row", so to speak on how the DB/Content teams will be proceeding. It was a rough learning experience for us all, but after months of slaving, debating, and beating LE to death for server support (grin) I am happy to report:
Phase 2:
This will consist of populating the last 3 "newbie" areas of Greater Faydark, Darklight Wood and Timorous Deep - at least to cover the first 20 levels of game play that these zones offer. We're not going to work on anything above level 20 til Phase 2 is complete (DB Milestone 1 - Newbie Content). Another part of Phase 2 will (hopefully) be finishing the Qeynos and Freeport city zones, as well as their suburbs and newbie areas.
While I will not give an exact ETA, I am hoping these zones will be completed before EQ2Emulator Beta 0.8 release (TBD). Understand, this is a TON of work, so as always, if you want to see it done faster, get involved. Join a team, help out where you can.
Here's a list of target zones to complete for Phase 2:
Any questions/concerns, feel free to ask!
Update: 2009.07.08 - FYI, I updated this overly zealous list of TODO's since there was no way we could get all that done in a single phase. Hence the birth of Phase 3 and 4 - see appropriate postings for details.

- We have a solid solution to how our spawns and their data will be laid out
SpawnScripts (interactions and basic movement, conversations) are fully understood
Spells structures (organized by Classes) with data and scripts defined on how we will proceed
Quest functionality is very extensive, so a majority of the server code work is behind us - time to script!
Items, while needing additional server support and another complete reload, work. Yes!
Zones have been cleaned up and given friendly names for ease of travel

As you can see, I am not exaggerating when I say it will be a TON of work. The Content Team is probably going to kill me for laying all this on them for the next couple of months - but the good news is, they cannot start until I get them data - so I guess I'd better stop posting and get parsing.Greater Faydark
