Server List

I know it might be a bit early in the development for an idea like this, but if we can get something like this going before development takes off and there ends up a mass of confusion among new players, it would save a lot of problems and forum space.
When people play on private servers they're looking for something specific. For example, I'm looking for a server that's as close to live as possible, but with high xp and drop rates. You can't just log onto the server list and see any info on all these servers. You have to actually create a character and log onto their server and check things out. If it's not what you're looking for, you have to delete your character and start again on the next server.
I would like to see a section of the forums dedicated to the server list where server owners can advertise their server, a list of specs, etc.
For example, a server might put:
EQ2 Emu Server - XP 20x/ Drops 10x
and when they click on the link it opens their own post for their server announcements, what special items and skills they have on their server, if they're server is bilingual or not, updates they've made, what makes their server different from the other servers, etc., or maybe even a link to their own website.
Arre :D

That's a good idea. It might already be considered, since when you register your server there is a textarea for putting a description of your server. Maybe that info can be used to advertise servers - and of course it would need to be moderated. I can just imagine what will turn up in a server description field. :)

I believe once the server list function on the website becomes active, that might solve that problem. When setting up a new server account it asks for a description; I hope this description appears on the server list next to the server name.
The problem I see going forward is that as people begin trying out the emu, the server list is going to get massive as many new servers appear and then disappear. I hope there is a plan to purge the list every once and a while so I don't have to look through 200 servers to find my server :P

The 0.0.2 release next Friday will start the implementation of the Server Listings on the EQ2EMu site.

Server listing is online. 0.0.2's release will fix the following bugs with the listing:
- Players currently online is not reported properly to the LS
- Zones currently active is not reported properly to the LS
- Status (World locked, full)

Feedback relating to the website server listing:
- When a server first starts, it's status appears as "unknown" before anyone logs in. Maybe this is expected?
- It seems there is a slight delay (few mins maybe?) between player login and stats update. This too is likely expected.
- Zones Running seems to be working
- Players online seems to be working
- MaxPlayers seems to be working (server name is yellow?)
The popup also reflects the proper status for players, zones active, status of the server being Open, Full, or Locked.
Excellent work. :)
Anyone playing with this, just give the website a minute or two to update, but it appears to be reflecting the proper info.
