deity to diety or vice versa your choice

diety as the code calls for it or deity as you've got setup.
would like to xref this to database section.
eq2.characters 'deity' <-- shows in db but eq2.characters 'diety' <-- is what code calls for.

There is no reference to "characters.diety" in the current World sources. World expects "characters.deity", and if it did not find it, you would not be able to log in. Please provide source code module by name and line number where you feel this is an issue. Better yet, provide a unified diff of a fix you feel is appropriate. Any source bug reported needs more information to be considered valid, and should be based off current SVN code.

He is probably referring to the last official source code release, but those files are horribly outdated and won't be updates until 0.7 is released.
