Quick question for John

Post by palaxe » Thu Mar 19, 2009 2:49 pm

John, are the data base tables set. What I'm getting at is if we spawn are world in alfa then when beta comes out can we use our spawn tables in the beta server? Are the tables going to change? I can't find anywhere were it talks about this in the forums. It would be good to know for anyone that is thinking about making a server.
Thanks

The database structure will undergo changes until this team is done developing this server, so yes. It is very likely the structures will change between alpha and beta.

But!
Any changes to existing systems that we are currently developing CONTENT for will not be changed so dramatically that their data is obsolete. I would not ask these guys to bust their asses every day building content if I thought the entire spawn system would be tossed out in a few months... that wouldn't make much sense, eh?

An example of current content and functionality that will only be modified slightly: Spawns, Items, Spells, Characters - things that work today

An exmple of functionality that does not yet exist, which will change drastically: Instances, Achievements, Mail, etc - things that do not yet exist

So, develop content all you want. At most, new tables may be added to support new features, or alterations may be made when we discover a newer, better way to do things.

Note:
 • Custom Content servers will be on their own for converting data should anything major occur, but we will provide ample examples of how to do so when/if the time comes.
